We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Klein and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabrielle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My biggest influence for starting my own business was to become my own boss. Growing up I never saw myself working a desk job. I’ve had an entrepreneurial heart since a kid. I also thought starting my own business would help make an impact in people’s lives. I want others to feel inspired when they see my art.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my journey by taking a 5 week beginner metalsmithing class. I did this to learn all the basics before i invested in creating my own studio. I wanted to make sure it was something I would enjoy. After my five weeks I fell in love with the process and was ready to start! I started by ordering all the supplies I would need for my own studio. From there I started practicing for hours! I am still not an expert but I learn more everyday which makes the process more exciting. Metalsmithing takes lots of patience. I would say that’s the hardest part. Things do not always go as planned. But through my determination I keep calm and and persevere on! I believe what makes Whimsy Wonders different are my designs and stone choices. I am focusing on making jewelry with moonstone, labradorite, and opals. I also provide options! I make dainty designs for the more simplistic person but also big chunky pieces for the maximalist! I want the world to know about my brand is that Whimsy Wonders is all about being confident and making a statement. Life is too short to not wear and do what you love!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was coming to visit I would first take her to the botanical gardens! Every time I visit it feels magical and it’s one of my favorite places in the city! Then of course I would take her to Little Five points for some vintage shopping. We could stop at the Arden’s Gardens and get fresh smoothies. Those smoothies are the BEST. I would also show her around downtown Decatur because they have the cutest shops. In Decatur we would eat our hearts out at D92, my favorite Korean BBQ place. They have this cheesy corn that is to die for!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my best friend Isabel Moore. She is the creator of Holy Hippie, another jewelry artist. When I discussed with her my vision she pushed me to start now! She encouraged me to go after what I want and not wait. Creating makes me the happiest so there was no reason why I shouldn’t start as soon as possible!
