We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabrielle, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
Arcane started out as a business idea to showcase my art and sewing skills. Years after the creation of Arcane, I wanted to get into event hosting. I was only fifteen, but I had a vision. I always identified myself as having the mission to provide service to others and inspire people to be their true self. Growing up, I experienced a lot of bullying and had to find a way to express what I was going through and how I was feeling at the time.
The future for Arcane consists of creating a non-profit where I can still cater to the needs of others, while expressing myself and inspiring others to advocate for themselves. Creating spaces where business owners have the opportunity to broadcast their talents and network together is also something I see myself continuing to provide for aspiring entrepreneurs. Over the last few years, I’ve led multiple community service projects that were centered around mental health awareness, clothing drives, and other donations for the less fortunate. Arcane isn’t just a brand, it’s a movement.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The most unique feature about Arcane is that most of the items I create are handmade. Arcane started out by selling hand-painted hats, which expanded to a selection of hand-painted clothing, shoes, and accessories. We also sell artisan jewelry, meaning that each piece we create is handcrafted with love and unique in its own way. My business was always an escape from reality. It allowed me to create my own world. In previous years, I struggled badly with depression and anxiety, so creating was therapeutic for me. It helped me clear my mind and make sense of my experiences.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a best friend, I would take them to the museums in downtown Baltimore. Baltimore has some nice murals, so we’d go sight seeing and just admire the architecture. The national aquarium downtown has some beautiful sea life I’d love to see again. For food, I would brunch at Maggie’s Farm or Black Swan. My father also has a BBQ spot on Richie Hwy, so I’d invite her to come taste his authentic southern barbecue. We would end the week by going for happy hour and shopping at the mall. I’d also enjoy puff and paint at the gallery about nothing. Baltimore has a lot of hidden gems for everyone to discover.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, my father has inspired me to chase my dreams. Since I was little, he always encouraged me to work towards anything I wanted in life. He shares the same passions of community service and mentorship to others. We are currently working on developing our own non-profit. Without my father, Arcane would not be where it is today.
