We had the good fortune of connecting with Freddy River and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Freddy, how do you think about risk?
I think that taking risks in your career is essential. You have to take risks and you have to be uncomfortable sometimes. However, I would say that making sacrifices is something that I have done a lot more than taking risks in my life and my career. I’ve lost a lot of friends and family because of my extreme focus on becoming great. Even with romantic relationships, it’s hard to balance that with a deep connection and passion for something that you revolve you life around. In my case, that thing is music producing. I’m not saying this to stop someone’s dream, but it’s important to understand that if you’re truly going hard with your craft, then you have to be realistic about the sacrifices you have to make on top of the risks that you take.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from most producers is my sound. I have harnessed a unique ambient sound mixed with soul combined with smooth west coast flavors for years, even when I started creating original music at the age of 11. However, I didn’t figure that out until I changed my name to Freddy River in late 2019/early 2020. It took me years to figure out and organize my image and sound. Once I finally did, it was like I was destined to be the greatest. I’ve never been so confident about my career in my life like I am now. I’m still facing extreme challenges and I’m still figuring out how to turn this career over to a full time one, but every month, I’m accomplishing a new goal and hitting new milestones. I will not stop.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I currently live in the middle of nowhere, so I would have to take my friend on a trip to Dallas or Houston which are two of the nearby bigger cities. The only problem is that I don’t go to Dallas often and I haven’t been to Houston yet, so we would have to figure out what the hottest things to do around the city is. I’m originally from Los Angeles, so I got some more exploring to do in Texas. I’m definitely big on open mic events and stand-up comedy shows.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I think deserve a shoutout. Obviously, first I would have to give it to Tavaras Jordan. One of the most talented musicians I know and he always has my back just as much as I got his. Next, I would have to give a shoutout to the SoundSelection crew. If you don’t know about them, they consist of me, Tavaras Jordan, DJ Idea (the founder), DJ Fresh, Foley Beats, Hollywood Beats, Diamond, Julian Avila, Mike D Exclusive, Trunx, and a few more names that I haven’t mentioned. But every single one of these guys in this group are truly dope. SoundSelection is definitely going to come up as the next big producer group next to Internet Money. We’re all taking over that new west coast sound and we’re doing it quite well.
