We had the good fortune of connecting with Frank Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Frank, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was primarily to see my creativity manifested in a business context. I’ve always enjoyed streetwear branding i.e graphic tees, hoodies etc, and thought it would be a great challenge to see how well my ideas in the streetwear realm would translate through a clothing line.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m currently the Owner of Red Gorilla Clothing aka PSL Brand (Passion Strength Loyalty). RGC/PSL is a concept that was born from my affinity for Gorillas along with my long time love of streetwear fashion brands. Red represents Passion and Gorilla represents Strength and Loyalty to family. Clothing is the vehicle that I chose to use as a transport for the values expressed in the name as well as the lifestyle associated with it. The success of RGC/PSL I believe is and continues to be driven by the relationship between the brand and the people who support the message and the movement behind the brand. I’ve learned a number of very valuable lessons on my entrepreneurial journey, none more important than the idea that living your values is it’s own reward and success. What I would like the world to know about my brand is that it’s an extension of my aspirations in life. I’m passionate about making my dreams come true. I’m Strengthened by my faith, and I’m Loyal to my Higher Power!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow…that’s a great question and a potentially long answer. Atlanta has changed a lot since I moved here in 94. There are however some people, places, and experiences that I would always recommend to my friends and or family who visit. First let’s talk food…you’ve got The Beautiful Restaurant on Cascade Road (Soul Food), We got Grana on Piedmont (Italian), There’s Vickery’s in Glenwood (Variety), Two Urban Licks on the Beltline, Chattahoochee Food Hall, and Ponce City Market are also great spots with an assortment of options. Nightlife is also plentiful in the A as you might expect…some of my favorite hangouts are MJQ Concourse, The Patio Cigar Bar, Monticello, Dugans Sports Bar, RockSteady Restaurant and Lounge to name a few. Atlanta obviously has all of your sports covered with the Braves, Hawks, Falcons, and ATL United. I would of course take anyone who visits to The King (MLK) Center, Ebeneezer Baptist Church visitors Center, and Dr. Kings former home in the Historic Auburn Avenue District. The AUC (Atlanta University Center) home of HBCU’s Spelman, Morehouse, Clark, and Morris Brown. Krog Street Market and the Beltline are excellent destinations for people watching while enjoying a meal or taking a walk/jog/bike ride. I have a number of friends in the entertainment and Art industries that if available would absolutely be on my list of dope people to hang out with. Speaking of Art…the Castleberry Hill Art Crawls are also on the list. Whew…told you a potentially long answer, and that’s nowhere near all there is. Lol
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely…I gotta shoutout my friends and family members who encouraged me from the brands inception and throughout the highs and lows of my entrepreneurial journey.
