We had the good fortune of connecting with Felecia Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Felecia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process has always been that I want to make my passion my paycheck. Although I have nothing against working a 9-5 job. Jobs are just not for me. I’m highly passionate about what I do and I enjoy serving. So why not capitalize off of it and make myself rich instead of someone else.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I take pride in presenting my dishes like no other. It brings joy to my heart to hear people talk about not only my food tasting good but it LOOKS delicious as well. I still have a long way to go to take my business where I would like for it to be. I started selling seafood dinners in Tampa, Fl. I would promote everything on social media and created a huge buzz. I would rent out a commercial kitchen and hundreds of people would come stand in line just to purchase this delicious looking food that they saw on the internet. The turnout would always be more amazing than the last & the people who came just from word of mouth was breathtaking. My supporters in Tampa started calling me The Seafood Queen and now the name just follows me everywhere I go. I can cook everything though and I love making the simplest dish feel like Comfort Food which is why I call myself the “Comfort Food Connoisseur”.

I now live back in my hometown Valdosta Ga and my plans are to continue building my brand and eventually opening a food truck so that I can take my food everywhere.

I’m taking it one day at a time. As long as I stay consistent I know that I will be able to reach and exceed the goals that I have for myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well of course, I’d be feeding my best friend because why not? Lol But if we were to go anywhere else I’d have to take my friend on a food tour and visit all of my favorite places to eat. Too many to name, but I have to give a shout out to all the home cooks out there who take their passion very seriously and are striving to open their own restaurant and food truck just like me.

Before my best friend leaves town I’d definitely have to take them to check out the hottest urban clothing line in the south right now and that’s Reckless Royalty.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my children. Jessiah & RaShad. They were the ones who encouraged me to start selling my food. When I would make dinner, I’d always have to dress it up and make it pretty. They would always say “mom, you should really open a restaurant because everything always just looks so good!” Also, because of my entrepreneurial spirit, my 18 year old son Jessiah started his own business at the age of 15. Because of them It’s a must that I keep going.
