We had the good fortune of connecting with Faythe Missick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What I’m most proud of in my business is that I deliver great service, it’s driven by being convenience for our authors but also being supportive throughout the entire process. I get authors who just start off with an idea and act as a resource from finding an illustrator or editor to the time we’re ready to order copies for print. I don’t invest in a big marketing campaign, so all of my clients are Word of Mouth. How I got to this point is doing the research, upskilling, and taking risk on new clients. It definitely was not easy and still it quite difficult at times. My first client, I didn’t make any money and was even in the negative because I put the illustrator’s fee in my fee, not realizing how much illustrator’s actually charged. I almost quit there but decided to keep going when another client reached out to me. What I’ve learned along the way is that you have to trust the process and not be attached to the product when you’re providing a service. This will take away some of anxiety and stress that comes with providing a service and wanting the whole process to be perfect. The other thing that motivates me to continues this work is really the feel good moment that comes with the service I’m providing. Publishing a book sits with other big accomplishments like graduating college, and landing your first deal at your job. It’s a very admirable achievement and that alone is what makes my company’s story great because I want my clients to have that same feeling of success I have felt when I published my first book. I take on all stories that want to be told and published and in upscaling, I’m excited to start teaching classes on how to self-publish. The best part of being my own publisher is that I am in control of ever part of telling my story and I want to give that back to my fellow storytellers as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Vault in Atlanta just opened up and I can’t wait to try it out for a date night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my friend Ashley Merchant, @a.merchantt. From the start of my company, she’s always been involved, from helping with the creative design of my book covers to encouraging me to not be afraid to increase my prices and knowing my worth. Everyone needs someone in your circle that is going to challenge you about how you’re scaling your business and the ways you’re taking it to the next level. She’s not only in your ear but also leading by example with her own businesses, as a businesswoman and creative.
