We had the good fortune of connecting with FABIANA De Souza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi FABIANA, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My kids were students at another School of Rock location and I saw first hand how much it helped them, not only learn music, but increased their passion and curiosity for it, gave them a community and a sense of belonging. School of Rock was a huge part of their coping mechanism as I was going through cancer treatment. The whole family fell in love with School of Rock and we decided we wanted to work together expanding it. We’ve opened our West Cobb location in Kennesaw in 2020 and we’re opening a new one in Woodstock soon.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
School of Rock is the leader in performance based music education with a patented method, including our SongFirst approach, app, books and performance based curriculum. The song first approach allow our students to learn music like they are learning a language, practice comes before theory. The seasonal show gives a goal and incentive to practice. School of Rock also gives a great pipeline for students that want further challenges and to improve themselves, allowing them to audition to House Band and School of Rock All Stars so they perform more and tour with other musicians. The Grand opening of our West Cobb location was a week before COVID lockdown witch posed a great challenge, since our whole business model is to bring people together and form bands. That was our biggest challenge so far.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start with a breakfast or brunch at Base Camp or Kennesaw’s Garden followed with a visit to Smith-Gilbert Gardens or a hike in Kennesaw Mountain and lunch at Asian Fusion or Sushiology. In Atlanta, I would take them to the Aquarium, Civil Rights Museum and to the Botanical Garden, stopping for lunch at Aviva.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When my family dreamed of opening our own School of Rock, our biggest ambition was to create a culture and build a community. We are extremely thankful to all our staff, students and families that have chosen to be a part of this dream and are helping us build this culture and helped us grown even during a pandemic. A special shout out goes to our Music Director Colby Kuzontkoski and for our General Manager Lindsey Williams. They both been with us since before we opened our doors. Lindsey is a true force of nature. She has a lot of attention to details and puts a lot of effort in knowing all our students very well. This allows her to work some magic in our calendar. Colby is very passionate about music, teaching and inspiring kids.
