We had the good fortune of connecting with Eva Madison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eva, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Creating beautiful artwork has always been a passion of mine. I love watching art come alive and people connecting with it, whether it is photography, paintings, books, or even presentations.
Although I didn’t formally focus on my photography business until about two years ago, I’ve really been incorporating my creative side for my entire career without even realizing it! My background is in audit, finance, system architecture, and compliance. I’ve been able to use my creative side to explain things differently by displaying complex issues graphically and using my art background to communicate solutions. I have found this to be very effective and concise – and visually pleasing.
I’ve been taking, displaying, and selling photographs for about 20 years and have always found it tremendously fulfilling. It is my way of meditating and balancing the craziness of the day.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My love of travel and its fascinating discoveries inspire my photography today. My work is mainly of natural landscapes and architecture. I grew up in a beach town, Naples, Florida, so I find taking photos of beaches and sunsets irresistible. I am mostly known for my composition and the natural light that is captured in my photos. All of those years, taking pictures of beaches at sunrise and sunset is starting to pay off.
It was challenging to balance photography with college and a full-time career. I am an author, a CPA, have degrees in Accounting and Information Systems, and an MBA from Emory. I love spending time with my wonderful family, my husband Todd, and my dog, Mia. I continued traveling the world and taking photos throughout the years, selling several along the way, but found it difficult to focus on it as a business until recently.
I’ve learned that you have to just start, no matter how much time you have. The smallest steps sometimes make you feel the most accomplished. I try to do one small task towards my goal every day, so I feel like I am moving in the right direction.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is such a beautiful city, and there is so much to do. I live in Buckhead and tend to spend most of my time here, but there are other places to highlight for sure!
Piedmont Park
I would start with an early morning yoga class in Midtown, followed by a long walk through Piedmont Park. Piedmont Park is absolutely breathtaking and tranquil in the morning light.
Kennesaw Mountain
Running at Kennesaw Mountain is one of my favorite things to do. The trails are—for the most part—unmanicured, so you feel like you are running through a forest. There are so many trails with varying elevations, making it a fantastic place to get a great workout. If you are feeling ambitious, there is an amazing hike that goes right over the mountain that rivals the trails in the North Georgia Mountains. And an added plus—great view of the city!
St. Regis
I love to sit at the St. Regis and enjoy a cappuccino and breakfast. The hotel is a beautiful mix of modern amenities with a southern elegance twist.
Le Bilboquet
I like strolling through the shops in Buckhead Village and stopping by this fabulous Parisian-esque restaurant for pommes frites, chocolate mousse, and a glass of prosecco.
Paces Ferry
I enjoy walking around the intersection of Peachtree, West Paces Ferry, and East Andrews. There are so many fun and diverse restaurants and shops in this area that you can really spend the entire afternoon strolling through them. Some of my favorites are the tuna sandwich at Henri’s Bakery and Deli, the vegan options at Sama Food for Balance, any soup at Souper Jenny (they are all incredible), and coffee at Brash Coffee.
Museums
Atlanta has many interesting museums, but my favorite is the High Museum, as it usually has great photography and decorative art exhibits.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my husband Todd who is always so supportive and patient and Mia, my little love.
