We had the good fortune of connecting with Estella Collymore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Estella, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am blessed to have two young and beautiful daughters with full, long, natural, and curly hair. I struggled to find natural based products formulated for kids that would not only keep their hair healthy and moisturized, but would also cut my washing and styling process in half. I realized that I have the perfect models and since I have to comb their hair everyday, why not look for the best ingredients and start a business. So, with that thought, Just Curly Cute was started.

What should our readers know about your business?
Just Curly Cute is a natural hair care product line created with love by a mother and wife that is especially formulated for kids. I wanted to create an affordable, quality line of products that could be used on textured hair. The products needed to moisturize, have natural ingredients, promote growth, and work like no other that are currently on the market.

I am most proud that I created this line from my kitchen and that I can show my children that if you work hard, anything is possible. Nothing is easy and nights are very long but if you are passionate, your dreams will come true. I started this business about 2 years ago and the growth has been something that I never imagined. I cannot wait to see how much more this business will grow in the future.

I learn new things everyday. When I first started, my product labels would fall off and you could not read them. I had no idea what I was doing but I knew that if I educated myself, worked hard, and tried different things that I would get through all the difficult times. I am still far from being perfect but I am perfectly okay with that. Everyday is an opportunity to learn and grow and I am enjoying the ride.

I would like the world to know that Just Curly Cute was created with love. We are a black owned, woman owned, family based business that truly cares about our customers. We not only sell quality products, we educate our girls and boys to create a culture of incredibly healthy hair.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in the best place on earth, South Florida. Known for its sand and sun, food, arts, and diverse culture, this is the place for the best time ever. We can enjoy the city while relaxing and getting in a little shopping. To learn and see how diverse South Florida is, we would start our festivities on Fort Lauderdale beach. Fort Lauderdale beach is a low-key scene full of cultural diversity. Let’s take a leisurely stroll around Beach Place and be sure to keep our eyes open for all the dancers, bike riders, singers, and rollerblades. After an amazing yoga workout, we can then soak in the sun and swim in the beautiful salt water before working up an appetite. There are many restaurants to choose from. One of my favorites is Shooters Waterfront where if we booked a boat ride for the day, we could pull right up and eat some of the fresh catch of the day. Now that we have worked on our tans, let’s get some relaxation at the Spa at Marriott Harbor Beach. My favorite treatment is the sticks and stones 50 minute massage. We can follow our massage with a swim in the private salt water pool and then grab a bite to eat at their Sea Level Restaurant and Ocean Bar. The mahi tacos are my favorite. We cannot forget to stroll the shops at Sawgrass Mills for that new handbag that we have been eyeing. After all that walking, let’s grab a bite to eat at The Cheesecake Factory, their Bahama Mama and Tex Mex egg rolls are my favorite. Well, this has been a fun week! Let’s turn on some Netflix and see what kind of action movie we can watch until we fall asleep. I hope you enjoyed our city and return soon.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to send a special shoutout to my father Stanley Jack. Stanley was a great father and innovative business man that instilled the entrepreneurial mindset that I have. From a very young age, I remember his dedication to running his own businesses and making sure that his children were a part of every aspect. He would always says, “work hard now so that you can play harder later.” He believed that there were no limits to the things you could do. He was a go getter that did not let anyone or anything stand in his way. He taught me from a very young age how to manage money, business, and life. Most importantly, he thought me how to live and cherish every moment.
