We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica James and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The inspiration behind starting my own business came from witnessing firsthand how poorly models and talent were being treated on set. After relocating from Houston to Atlanta, I experienced an unacceptable level of disrespect and lack of professionalism in the industry. That experience became a turning point. I partnered with another model who shared my vision, and together we created Profetik, LLC — an agency built on integrity, empowerment, and respect for creatives.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is rooted in experience, resilience, and a deep respect for authenticity. What sets me apart is that nothing about my journey has been handed to me — I’ve had to fight for my place, using my instincts, creativity, and determination to navigate an industry that can often be dismissive of those who don’t follow the traditional path. I was on my own at an early age, learning by trial and error how to survive — and eventually, how to thrive. It wasn’t easy. I’ve faced more than my share of trials and tribulations, but each challenge taught me something valuable.

I refused to take shortcuts or compromise my integrity, even when doing so might’ve brought quicker success. Because of that, my path took longer, but it also earned me something far more meaningful: respect. I’m proud to say that I’ve built a name for myself based on real talent, hard work, and staying true to who I am.

What I want the world to know is that my brand, my story, and everything I create come from a place of truth. Profetik, LLC was born out of that same passion — to protect, uplift, and honor creatives the way they deserve. If there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it’s this: the road may be rough, but the destination is worth every step when you walk it with integrity.

With that said, we’ll be closing the doors to Profetik, LLC in 2025. While it’s bittersweet, it marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter — the launch of my new production company, Tha Glue Productions, LLC.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit, I’d make sure they had the time of their life experiencing all the richness Atlanta has to offer. We’d kick things off with a city tour — I love showing people the layers of history here, from the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park to the Atlanta History Center. Atlanta has deep roots, and I think it’s important to soak that in.

I’m a museum lover, so we’d definitely spend time at the High Museum of Art and the Trap Music Museum — two completely different vibes, but both equally important to the city’s cultural fabric. I’m a total foodie too, so we’d bounce around trying everything from brunch at The Real Milk & Honey, dinner at Poor Calvin’s, to grabbing late-night bites at Roc South or Slutty Vegan — no trip is complete without it!

We’d catch a show at the Fox Theatre or find a rooftop bar with a view — like Ponce City Market’s Skyline Park — and just vibe. Atlanta is such an ever-changing city that even the unplanned moments become unforgettable. I’d want us to just live in the moment, explore neighborhoods like Little Five Points and the BeltLine, and just enjoy the energy of the city and the time we have together. Every day would be a new adventure — with a good meal, good music, and good memories.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to two incredibly important people who helped keep me grounded through this journey. First, my grandmother — her wisdom, strength, and unwavering belief in me have always been a guiding force in my life. She taught me the value of staying true to myself and moving with purpose. Second, my best friend, Desmond Tuckerson, who is no longer with us. Desmond was one of the most talented photographers I’ve ever known, and beyond that, he was my biggest cheerleader. His creativity, passion, and support continue to inspire me every day. This journey wouldn’t be what it is without their love, friendship, and influence.
