We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Poland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Germany on an ARMY base, and our family moved to a new location every 3 years. I was able to see a lot of art and architecture at such a young age, that it really inspired me to become a visual artist.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I graduated with a BFA degree in graphic design in 2006, and after college I had trouble finding work. I had basically given up on the dream of being an artist, but one day I decided to pick it back up. I posted a few landscape illustrations on Facebook and had amazing feedback from friends about wanting to purchase my art. I started to show at local art festivals and people purchased my art. It’s an awesome feeling when people started purchasing things that I made.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really don’t get out much. Creating art is primarily how I spend my time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God deserves all the credit for where I’m at. Over 10 years ago I had a traumatic experience and heard a voice tell me that I was going to be an artist. That didn’t comfort me very much at the time, but now I’m sure that was God.
