We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Kane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Music and or any creative outlet has been in our family for generations. I always had the desire, the vision to write, inspire and perform but through my twenties I just didn’t have the confidence or courage to chase those dreams. Until January 2015 when my older brother passed away to some tragic events. This propelled me to start writing and within 1 month I had wrote him a tribute song and shared it on Facebook. At this time I had never shared me singing for anyone let alone on the internet. The song within hours started to go viral. The local radio station got ahold of me and asked me to come perform it live on air and I just forced myself to do it. After performing , I had got hundreds of messages from people thanking me for such a vulnerable track and performance. That desicion ultimately changed my life. 7 years later I continue to perform and try to inspire through my music. It’s been an incredible journey so far, but I feel just the beginning.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Again I’ve been pursuing this carreer in music for 6 years now. Telling my story of all the hardships, growth, and lessons that have come to propel me on this path after my brother passed. From being one of the most shy people, to learning how to express myself from my core of emotion. Becoming so open and vulnerable until it became the norm. Over the years that has lead to thousands of connections & conversations because everyone can relate to all the emotion and turmoil we try to bury and hide, especially with males, as society has taught us to keep our emotions in. It’s truly been a beautiful journey so far.

With that being said, the last 6 years I’ve been sharing this story , it’s been through my band I formed ” Kane Incognito”. We have had a pile of success with national radio placements and opening for a string of international talent, but there has also been this disconnect with the branding as trying to tell this vulnerable emotional story, and having a band photo of 4 cool dudes, it’s hard for the outsider looking in to make that emotional connection. So as of 2022 I am continuing my musical journey as “Eric Kane”. My debut solo project will be released end of May.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I reside in Edmonton AB, and I’ve been hooked on the game of disc golf the last year aside from music, so I would most likely bring them for a round at Rundle Park in Edmonton here. For food and entertainment in the evenings I would most likely bring them to Jasper Ave as there is always live entertainment and some great restaurants. Whether that be the Station on Jasper , or the Starlite Room. Both well known venues in Edmonton!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my mother, Dara Cherrington. She has helped/supported and really made this carreer path attainable through her love & support. Just all the little things that have added up over the years. We have been through so much, especially after the loss of my brother, her son, but we’ve held our heads high. She is an incredible human, friend and mother.
