We had the good fortune of connecting with Enisha Hutchinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Enisha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always considered myself walking to the beat of my own drum kind of girl. Kind of a loner, quiet but never missing an opportunity to be a peacemaker or a helper to others. Willing to learn a new skill and try new things at any time. But always longed to create and work for myself. I had been employed at a Fortune 500 company for a little over 11 years. The feeling of being underwhelmed, underutilized, and unappreciated was the sentiment. Leaving this employer crossed my mind many times before, but I stayed due to fear and complacency, as many of us do. Not really sure about my next step. I prayed for a release …and how many of you know there’s always a ram in the bush? Lol Shortly after, due to some changes in the company, working in the brick and mortar was no longer an option. This was the first time I felt that I had an out! I had long to be a business owner. This was the first time I felt like it was the right time. Fearful of going full throttle into a business, I started off with a Cricut, a heat press, and a dream. I started a t-shirt company Curvy Chic Tee. Motto: Embracing Melanated Thought, Mood, and Expressions via Trendy Graphic Tees. After seeing the success of Curvy Chic Tee, I expanded the brand to Curvy Chic Plus clothing boutique offering sizes small-5xl. It had been my dream to put what I love to do in motion to help women find fashions both suitable for curvy and plus-sizes that they could be proud of wearing. I knew the road ahead wouldn’t be easy but well worth it. It made more sense to me to work for myself. Do what I’m passionate about, and put in 100 hours making sure my customers are satisfied versus putting in 40 hours with an employer who is never satisfied. Entrepreneur life (which I’ve also trademarked and refer to myself as the CurvyPrenuer) is the most challenging yet rewarding. Looking forward to expand further in the future.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I recently completed my bachelor’s from Strayer University, graduating with honors and currently continuing my education with an MBA in Digital Entrepreneurship. Raising two toddlers (3year old & 4year), continuing education, and running a business full-time definitely had its challenges. Overcoming those challenges is a continuous process. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is; it’s ok to say no! Though I felt like a superwoman, at times, the reality was I wasn’t. This is how I came up with the Brand CurvyPrenuer it was through my failure and triumph I coined the phrase.
Simply put, a CurvyPrenuer is a woman with curves and confidence reaching goals being an inspiration to others all while obtaining the bag. Unfortunately, there were times that I took on too many orders and over-extended myself, and it cost me in the end. Hence it’s ok to say no statement…Quality over quantity is the quickest lesson any business owner should know. Another Lesson I’ve learned along the way is that being shy doesn’t make you money. Making appearances doing pop-up shops, networking, and getting exposure are what makes you money, So I’m doing just that! I want the world to know that Curvy Chic Tee and Curvy Chic Plus stand behind her brand. My goal is to continuously provide quality, honesty, and style with custom T-shirts, hoodies, and accessories. #shop www.curvychicplus.com you won’t be disappointed!
