We had the good fortune of connecting with EMMANUEL ETTI and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi EMMANUEL, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I started my business because I saw a problem that needed to be solved.
First, my colleagues complained about how their kid’s school bags were not strong enough to carry their study materials and how their laptop bags were so expensive but lacked the required quality and then I noticed 50% to 65% of students I meet on the street daily either use a polythene bag, sag bags or torn school bags so I thought of what I can do to assist in solving this problem.
One day My mum travelled to Lagos for a visit, she got a bag maker as a friend who made so I decided to go learn the basics from her as I’ve always been passionate about using my hands to create something beautiful and later improved via youtube lessons. The rest is history.
This gave birth to THE RIGHTZ BAG which after a year, we incorporated THE RIGHTZ SHOES and THE RIGHTZ APPAREL for quality shoes and school uniforms.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I have a career in Business administration, also experienced in the Asset protection and Customer service field but I love being creative with my hands asides from my soft skills.

It’s all about determination and focus.

I thank God for the grace to overcome some of the obstacles faced on this journey. When I registered for a shoemaking class, at first I thought “this will definitely be so stressful for me”. I work full time, spent my whole day at work and still go for my leatherwork training after work. Most times I leave home by 5:30 am and return at about 9:30 pm. I spend my day learning and then I’ll burn the night making bags for my clients. So most times I sleep around 1:00 am to 2:00 am. I got here because God helped me. it’s not been easy, I’ve fallen sick over and over again due to stress. I burn my night studying and attending to orders so sleep has never been complete hours. But, when looking at my goals and how far I’ve come already I’ll be motivated and encouraged never to give up because my hard work is paying and other people are definitely looking up to me the way I’m looking up to others, if I fail, lot’s of people might fail, I don’t want such to happen.

Last year, I got some machines for leather works and fashion designing, got a fashion designer to be in charge of the clothing aspect and another shoemaker to aid in shoemaking. Here we are today.

Asides from servicing the needs of our pupils in school, we’re also making it easy for people to just walk into one location and get their quality handcrafted shoes, bags, belts and clothes for their events rather than moving from one location to another.
Through my enterprise, I’ve learnt how important it is to treat everyone with respect and how important relationship is in any business. I’ve learned how to treat my employees with high regard so my customer can feel the same.
The world needs to know that we are here to solve a problem, collaborate and make the world a better place and not unnecessary competition. @THERIGHTZ, we believe we can make the world a better place through collaboration and treating each other with high regard.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Pack.
The studio.
The eatery
and the leather market

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, to God my creator for the Grace, My late Sister, she encouraged me to take the bag making training, My mum who supported and then my mentors for sharing their knowledge with me.
