We had the good fortune of connecting with Elly Pagán and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started working at a young age. By 16 years I was already working for someone else. Always working for private and commercial companies. Feeding someone else’s belly while I struggled to get by. I told myself, one day, I’ll be my own boss.
After much research and savings, I was able to get my business up and ready.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Pet Nurse Jelly is the name of my business. I specialize in Senior pets and pets with special needs. My goal is to provide professional and educational service to fur babies and their parents. I also provide sitting and walking services. With my 10+ years of experience in veterinary services, I like to practice Fear-free techniques starting with house visits. With house visits, the pets are at ease and comfortable in their own space.
Getting to where I am right now was not easy. It takes a lot of dedication and commitment to yourself and your clients. I have learned that loyalty and perseverance goes a long way. Once you are honest with yourself and know what you want, it’s easier to plan for your future. I always loved working with animals but having worked all these years with pets, I’ve falling in love with helping the elderly and physically advantaged pets. I love helping and I love pets, so what better business to run than a pet nursing and sitting one? I am truly happy with what I do and extremely proud of what I do and how far I’ve gotten.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends come and visit, I always take them around Atlanta to see all the amazing murals around the area. For food, we’d either go to Felini’s or maybe El Super Pan in Ponce city market. I’d definitely show them around East Atlanta Village and Little 5 Points which are my favorite spots to hang. And for sure there’s an art market or art gallery around with some live music going on.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
