We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth DeVoe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, what do you attribute your success to?
When I first picked up a camera in August of 2021, I had no clue where it would take me. I was really just looking for a creative outlet for after work; something to help me destress and unwind from the day. It was an immediate love. Today, I am able to work with some of the most incredible couples, capturing their love stories as authentically as possible.

The most important thing for me and the success of my brand is visibility and authenticity. I want every person I photograph to feel completely seen and represented in their photos. I want to create timeless memories that bring them back to that exact moment in their life, whether it be their wedding, their engagement, their pregnancy, or just another Sunday with their family. I want their genuine, authentic selves to shine through each photo.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an elopement and intimate wedding photographer based in Atlanta, GA. I began my photography journey last summer, and it has been a whirlwind of a journey ever since.

I am primarily self taught, with the help and advice of countless other photographers, podcasts, videos, and articles. I practiced by walking around my neighborhood every day taking photos of mailboxes, flowers, trees, and the streets. I practiced until I knew my camera and my settings inside and out, and then practiced some more. I was taking photos of friends for free for a couple of months, learning what styles I like and how I wanted to serve clients.

Then, one day, a random person found me on Facebook and asked for a fall session for her family. She asked for my prices, which were nonexistent at the time. That was the push I needed to officially start taking clients. She and her family were amazing and have continued to be repeat clients throughout my journey.

Finally, in February of this year, I decided to officially file for my LLC, and Elizabeth DeVoe Photography was born.

In the beginning, the thing I loved most was when people saw their photos, and felt beautiful, seen, and authentic. They would notice their specific laugh or smile, and the way their partner looked at them. It has been my goal to capture things as they happen, and to give space for my couples and clients to experience their day fully. Because of this I am primarily a documentary-style wedding photographer, meaning I won’t stop and pose you too much, but instead I will position you in the great light and let you do your thing. I will creatively capture it beautifully, allowing you to experience the day exactly as it was meant to be.

I am also a public school art teacher, so managing a business and a full time job has posed some challenges at times. I am very grateful to have my partner as a support system, and the encouragement of everyone around me to keep me going. I try to be sure I shut down all work by dinner time, so that I can rest and spend time with my family. This allows me the space to serve my students and my clients without feeling burnout. I hope to go full time with my photography in the next few years. My goal is to be able to travel and capture intimate weddings and elopements all over, and support my family while doing the thing I love the most.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many fun things to do in Atlanta! To be honest, though, I am often a homebody, and I would likely go to Kroger, get a bunch of junk food and snacks, and watch some movies or binge-watch a good series for the weekend! Add in the occasional trip to Target and Petco, and that’s a perfect weekend to me!

If we wanted to go out, though, a few places I would love to take someone to is Fernbank Museum (their after-dark series is awesome) and a good local brewery. I live in the West End of Atlanta, and we are super lucky to have so many awesome breweries nearby like Best End and Monday Night Garage. We would absolutely have to get pizza somewhere, and it would probably be from Fellini’s!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow. I have so many people to thank for where I am today in this journey. First, Raymond Hatfield and the Beginner Photography Podcast taught me so much of what I learned in the beginning of the journey, and gave me my first interview opportunity. Everyone in that group has supported or helped me in some way or another. Tracy Englund (this is you… photography) and Sara Neal (Maison Media) both gave me some of my first second shooting opportunities at weddings. They gave me encouragement, education, and most of all trust when they didn’t really have a reason to. John Branch IV photography taught me so much through his Youtube education, and inspired so much of my style and work. He even gave me the opportunity to second shoot with him and learn beside him. And most importantly, my incredible partner Zack, who has encouraged me through this entire journey. Thank you for always having faith in me.

I feel as though I could go on and on with this list. If you have supported, encouraged, or been a part of my journey in any way whatsoever, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
