We had the good fortune of connecting with Elisha L NeVille and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elisha L, why did you pursue a creative career?
Just to be extremely transparent I didn’t pursue it, it just happened. At a young age, I discovered that I was talented in illustrating, but I didn’t take it seriously until I got older. Then Nipsey Hussle died, and I was inspired to create a piece of him.  At the time, it had been at least five years since I had drawn anything. After I finished the drawing, I wanted to make a large painting of him & I never really painted anything before, and I end up doing well on the painting. After that, I kept painting and drawing but when COVID happened I went all in and really started to take it more seriously

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a drafting technician by trade which keeps me busy in the corporate world.  However, regarding the pursuit of my art career, I am self-taught. I didn’t take any classes to understand the technique of painting with acrylic; so, it was a lot of trial and error. A mentor would have been nice, but YouTube videos of various artists painting were my training ground. By the way two of my favorite artists are KAWS and Takashi Murakami, I really love the character design

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am currently located in Birmingham, AL. Even though I may not eat out as much, when I do; I love to go to Tre Luna Bar and Kitchen located in Hoover, AL. However, when I am in Atlanta for an event or an art show, my go-to restaurant is No.246 located in Decatur, GA

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I would like to thank God for giving me my abilities. I would like to shout out my family but pacifically my mother Crystal Neville. My brothers & my dad always show me a lot of support when it comes to my work. they showed me that they really believed in me, but my mom was always the one that really pushed me. At a young age when I didn’t see the value that I had, the talent that I possessed, she did. She believed in me when I didn’t even know who I was as an artist or when I didn’t even really care about drawing or painting anything.
