We had the good fortune of connecting with Elam B King Relationship & Life Coach and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elam B King, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson is the understanding of yourself. Also known as self awareness. Understanding yourself affects every facet of your life. Career: if you understand yourself, than you know why God has created you and you can walk in your purpose. If you walk in your purpose, you will bless yourself and God’s people which will then come back to you in a continuous increase of blessings Relationships: understanding yourself allows you to increase your self love which in turn also allows you to attract the right person. Not only will you attract the right person, but you will also be able to maintain that relationship and empower yourself with tools for a lasting relationship. We can take this to financial, spiritual, physical health, so many critical areas can operate at a maximum level in your life by maximizes your knowledge of yourself first.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a little confused so I’m going to answer this in 2 ways. #1 – I have a 9-5 job in telecom sales. I have been in sales since I left college at Hampton University with a Marketing degree. I went on to receive 2 MBA’s(Marketing and Project Management). By the time I received my Masters, I realized that I didn’t want to work in corporate America anymore. I wanted to do public speaking but didn’t know what or how to get in that space. #2 After realizing the above, I started walking in Network Marketing and that increased my reading. The more I read, the more I understood myself. I then wrote a book called Understanding a Man and that also moved me into relationship coaching. Then came the speaking events. None of this was easy because I basically took my life challenges, and wrote a book to help other people not have to go through what I had been through. There was a cost I had to pay in understanding myself because I had to face some of the poor decisions I had previously made, learn from them, and move forward. Some of that moving forward involved letting some things go, and also I had to take on other responsibilities as well. My goal is to improve our communities. In order to improve our communities, we have to improve our families and keep them together. In order to improve our families, we have to deal with the individuals(man and woman) and help them to understand themselves, their roles in a relationship, and give them specific tools they can use to foster a lasting relationship.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In lieu of covid, I really can’t think of any places I like to hang out. Even prior to covid, I didn’t hang out alot in Atlanta. I only go to networking events or seminars, or events that my friends are putting together in their respective businesses. Other then the occasional moment of going to Whiskey Mistress or a sports bar to watch the NFL games, I don’t have any favorite spots.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Adrienne E Bell was the person that pushed me to not only write a book but walk in my purpose. Lindsy Bivens is the godmother of my first book Understanding a Man. She was/is my book coach. Bishop Chancey King and the congregation of Greater Works Tabernacle for the prayers John Myers is my counselor and keeps my mind right Reading the book “Outwhiting the Devil” by Napoleon Hill was the jumpstart I needed 10+ years ago to walk in purpose and not be a drifter
