We had the good fortune of connecting with Elaine Hanson Oudems and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elaine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was a single mother juggling multiple jobs…..A master hair stylist as well, I knew that I had to serve my ‘WHY’. My children, our needs; our comfort level; me; my wants and needs and most of all, my self image. How I saw myself. Being an owner was not only essential, it was necessary and it was the driving force and thought behind starting my own business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
No one gets to the top by themselves. I did my part essentially; I always do. I don’t invest in anything that I am not an expert in. My mate at the time noticed my gifts, talents, drive and determination. He taught me about my fiscal health and lent his financial expertise to me and then he invested in me and I have been thriving ever since. What sets me apart from others? I am CONSISTENT. The quality of my services, my level of knowledge, my ability to see a consumer need and to answer it is unmatched, I stay in my lane and perfect it before I expand…but I always expand. This is how you build a brand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is so beautiful….It’s like a smorgasbord of sites, sounds, good energy and food. I love the Midtown Arts Cinema and the vibes that are there. I love Buckhead’s energy; sites and sounds…and The Beltine. The lifestyles and diversity and food and environment gives me life.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out every woman who doesn’t realize that they are enough, they can do it and they can have what their heart desires. It, the universe and everything in it, is in the hearts, minds and abilities of strong women everywhere.
