We had the good fortune of connecting with Elaine Gattis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elaine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My father started our family construction business the year I was born. He owned and operated that successful business for over 50 years until retiring, establishing a strong foundation in the entrepreneurial world. This early exposure instilled in me a deep appreciation for building and managing a business. Although I pursued a career in the corporate arena for many years, I have always been drawn to creating and developing my own ventures, leading me to consistently pursue one or two “side hustles” alongside my primary employment. My academic background, including an undergraduate degree in business administration has further equipped me with valuable insights into market strategies and consumer engagement.

Additionally, as someone with several years of accounting experience in the tech industry, I understand the challenges and uncertainties that can come with repeated layoffs. After my last position was eliminated, I decided it was the right time to fully commit to running my own business and pursue my own aspirations. As a result, I found and acquired Liqueurish mocktails at an early stage from a talented and imaginative founder who successfully launched the business. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, she was unable to continue leading it. I was blessed to have the opportunity to take on her vision and build upon the foundation she created.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Liqueurish is a premium, functional, ready-to-drink, mocktail brand. We are dedicated to flavor innovation, craftsmanship, and mindful social drinking. With a focus on high-quality natural ingredients and masterful blending, Liqueurish is setting a bold new precedent, bringing non-alcoholic drinks into the mainstream spotlight.

In addition to being a serial entrepreneur, I have been a foodie since before being a foodie was a thing. As a child, I would sit in the kitchen and watch my mother and grandmother create the most delicious Creole dishes one could imagine. Learning to make Gumbo was a rite of passage in my family. Naturally, one of my side hustles was becoming a chef and caterer for several years. I’ve always believed that a great meal deserves an equally great beverage, and that’s where the vision for Liqueurish took root.

I firmly believe that eating and drinking are inherently social activities that bring families and communities together. With Liqueurish, my goal was to create a social drinking experience that offers all the enjoyment without the alcohol, the hangover, or excessive calories. Above all else, exceptional taste was paramount – because if it doesn’t taste great, nothing else matters.

I also desired a drink that was convenient and ready to enjoy without any mixing or preparation – something you could simply sip. As a Christian and ordained minister, I wanted to create a product that reflects my values—one that is both uplifting and enjoyable. Liqueurish mocktails embody this mission by blending adaptogens and antioxidants, such as reishi mushroom extract and chai, to promote positivity, well-being, and a variety of health benefits. Adaptogens help the body adapt to stress, supporting resilience and balance, while antioxidants combat free radicals, reducing inflammation and boosting overall health. Additionally, Liqueurish is low calorie, vegan, and gluten-free. It’s the perfect combination for great taste, good health, and well-being!

As Liqueurish is still in its early stages, I recognize that there are many lessons ahead. However, the most significant challenge I’ve encountered thus far has been my limited experience within the beverage industry. While I was fortunate to understand and embrace the original founder’s vision, and I am confident in my ability to bring it to life creatively, I acknowledge that there’s still much for me to learn. Nevertheless, I have been and continue to dedicate myself to thorough research. I’ve gained a considerable understanding of the functional, ready-to-drink mocktail business, more than I initially imagined. Importantly, I have the insight to collaborate with individuals who possess expertise in areas where I may be less experienced.

It’s truly remarkable to witness the rapid growth of the mocktail beverage industry. This undertaking is undoubtedly significant, yet as a woman of faith, I believe that I am guided and supported every step of the way. I trust this path was meant for me and I will see it through. It has been an incredible journey so far, and Liqueurish is poised to meet the increasing demand in this exciting market!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends are visiting Atlanta the following ae a few of my go-to spots:

For brunch, while Atlanta has many great options, I often prefer the simpler, consistently excellent experiences at 2 Eggs in Stockbridge. The service, atmosphere, and food are always top-notch at both.

For dinner, if you’re in the mood for sushi and bibimbap, Makimono in the Krog district is a fantastic choice.

Beyond the food scene, I would also include some of Atlanta’s classic attractions like the Atlanta Botanical Garden or the Apex Museum. Catching a show at City Winery or taking a day trip to Kaya Vinyard and Winery can also be great options.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Terrance, my husband, is not only my mentor and business partner but also our Chief Operating Officer. He was my biggest supporter from day one and the biggest champion for Liqueurish. I’m deeply grateful for his constant love and support, and I truly believe that Liqueurish Mocktails wouldn’t have happened without him.
