We had the good fortune of connecting with Eduardo Barreat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eduardo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been a business owner and for as long as I can remember I have always wanted to manufacture my own product from beginning to end

What should our readers know about your business?
Lalos is my baby! I am so passionate about these sauces and I hope it comes through to people. We are small but proud of the quality product we have created. Lalos is a unique, flavorful, and clean line of sauces. It is family owned and operated in its entirety.

From the very beginning we had to overcome different challenges because we wanted to make sure everything was done correctly. One of the first important decisions we made as a family was to open our own manufacturing facility so that we could really control the process and yield better quality. We had issues with the wrong builder, the building permits, and finally licensing. All of it took us over a year to resolve and finally start. All these challenges only made us more determined to continue our path. Being an entrepreneur is not easy, it takes courage, lots of hard work, believing in your product and in yourself, being passion it and not giving up! That doesn’t mean that one needs to know when to pivot if necessary.

As a business owner you need to have the right balance between being a dreamer and a realist!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As an immigrant family, we opened to restaurants in Smyrna and Kennesaw area. There, I took inspiration in my mother-in-law’s hot sauce to create our signature sauce. It became it’s own sensation at the restaurant; people wanted to buy it to take it home. As my wife and I made the decision to sale the restaurants, we realized that this could be a great business. I am thankful for my wife’s family and our community in Smyrna who really encouraged us to start Lalos.
