We had the good fortune of connecting with Ed Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ed, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Work Ethic and Passion. It is my firm belief that you work for people. In this profession you are charged with a persons goal. That may be weight loss, it may be an athlete trying to enhance their talent, or to get rehab/more strength. We believe in that. We breathe that. We embody our clients efforts and results. We believe in continuing education. This is an ever evolving industry and we like to be ahead of the game. I personally do seminars, read, and am constantly learning so that I can be the best coach I can. My coaches do the same way and think the same way. I also believe the hardest workers get the best results. That is for our clients who put in the work and the amount of work The Rack’s coaches put in. It is a shared and mutual position to enhance the lives of others.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets The Rack apart is our commitment to growth. We want our facility to be the best, we want people to feel it when they walk up the steps. Our Coaches and clients have formed a really wonderful environment where we all support each other and are family. Everyone is friends and everyone is there for each other to make each other better. You don’t get that walking into a commercial gym.
It has never been easy to get where we are. My wife and I started The Rack with another couple as our partners. You always believe in the romantic notion that those things will work out. Unfortunately it didn’t, and that was really hard as these were people we were very close with. We knew we needed to be the sole owners to continue with this really beautiful place we had created. So we found the money and bought them out for the betterment of everyone involved. It wasn’t easy but we did it. Then the next year we had COVID. If I am being honest, without the support of our clients and coaches to keep going I am not sure if we would’ve hit the statics of closing shop. During COVID 60% of privately held gyms closed their doors. We hunkered down, my Wife and our CPA got together and figured out financial situations, and our coaches stuck with us. Honestly, we came out stronger. We knew our clients believe in the facility we’ve created and we pushed through. That was not with out hardship, fear, and stress but we did it and are here standing today.
There are so many lessons learned in 5 years. The biggest being surround yourself with people who challenge you in a way to make you better, stronger, and smarter. There is always a new challenge in this business but they all make you better. And we are in the betterment of people business and we take that seriously. Their successes are ours and we take that seriously.
I want the world to know The Rack and our coaches fight back in the face of adversity. We are here to raise the bar, even when it feels impossible. We get up in the morning for others and we go to bed planning the successes for others. You aren’t a number at The Rack. You are our family.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would obviously visit The Rack first to get in a great lift! We are big fans of Braves games, Little Alley Steak House, The Aquarium, World of Coke, and finding small business to support in the area!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out our clients and coaches. Our clients are our family and we treat them as such. They are the reason we are here, they are the reason we keep going, and they are the motivation to be better.
I’d also like to shoutout the Coaches at The Rack. Robert Jacobs, Jermaine Hough, Kalil Sherrod, And Lauren Shull. You challenge and inspire me to work harder, learn more, and continue to journey to making this the best gym in Atlanta. Thank you for your dedication, loyalty, and choosing to enhance this facility with your talents.
