We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Jenae and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ebony, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
Honestly, the end goal is to leave this Earth with zero untapped potential left inside of me. I want to accomplish ALL of what God has for me to do. Of course I have an idea of where I would like to be by the end of my career. The Grammy, Oscar, Emmy, and Best Selling Author status is what I hope to achieve if it’s in God’s plan for me. You see, I had to take a step back and start looking at my life, my gifts/talents, and my career through the lens of wanting to please God rather than my just own desires. And not from a deep churchy standpoint, but from a simple “Am I fulfilling His purpose for my life?”. Because I know God’s plan for me is bigger than anything I could ever imagine for myself, the end goal is always to fulfill that. I believe that when it’s finally time for me to check out of here, I will have accomplished all I set out to and more because of that choice.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m currently working on my debut EP titled “Unveiling”. It’ll showcase many different sides of my artistry. I’m excited for my supporters to have a musical body of work from me so they can get a better sense of who I am as an artist. What I’m most excited about currently is my new book coming out called Dear Colorism, Time’s Up! I speak candidly about my personal experience with Colorism and how I overcame the negative effects of it. The book isn’t meant to be the solution, but to reveal the issue in an unfiltered way while calling out the black community about the various roles we’ve played in keeping Colorism alive, as well as steps we can take towards dismantling it. As cliché as it may sound, I got to where I am today by not giving up. As an independent creative, you get met with so many obstacles. In general, the odds are not in our favor. Millions of people can sing, act, dance, write, etc. but very few actually get to make a career out of it and earn a decent living from it. Many of us wrestle with the thought that our dreams are too far fetched. Speaking on myself specifically, I often feel like the odds are stacked against me. But the way I see it is, the only way I won’t succeed is if I give up. You just have to keep going no matter what gets thrown at you. This journey has been the furthest thing from easy, but each obstacle I overcome helps me get better along the way. If there’s any piece of advice I can leave you with, it’s to be grateful for where you are right now. Do not compare yourself to anyone else. Your journey is YOUR journey. Trust that you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. As long as you stay in alignment with your purpose, things will begin to manifest for you all in divine timing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was in town, we’d probably spend most of our time at home or in nature. Hiking and long walks are always so nice for our bodies. If I had to choose a fun activity for us to do, it would be Top Golf or an Escape Room.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom! That women believes in my dreams more than I do sometimes. She is always there to set me straight whenever I feel like giving up. Love you Ma!
