We had the good fortune of connecting with Eber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eber, what do you want your legacy to be?
I would like my music to be an inspiration not just for people who come from where I come from but the underdogs who felt like they couldn’t. The dreamers who say “I wish” and are willing to make that first step of creating without boundaries and being and being an outsider. I want people to remember that I too started from zero and everything was built one brick at a time. I feel like apart from Bad Bunny there aren’t too many musical artists in Latin America or the Spanish language that are pushing creative boundaries to the edge. I also understand that for some, music is a way how to financially empower their families and community this is why i never point the finger. But at a certain point playing it safe makes everything repetitive. I feel like living in Toronto has given me an advantage in that sense. I’m inspired by different music every day from Rock to KPOP or amapiano. So why not take bring that influence back and introduce latinos to a new sound. It’s like when Kanye released Yeezus, folks were confused at first.. But years later a lot of them caught on.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have noticed that what sets me apart from my peers is my ability to create by myself. I produce, write and mix the grand majority of my work. It is taxing but at the same time it allows me to be so much closer to it since it all comes from me. I have had many challenges in this industry, from being caught up in politics to the inability of show my art to the masses but the answer it’s always the same. If it is meant to be you will always find a way. It is very difficult being an independent artist in 2024, and for anyone looking to make a quick buck, save yourself some time.. it is a real hustle. Just putting in perspective that an artist like Bad Bunny has a team of probably 30 people to run its social media and marketing alone can give you an idea. I have learned that a solid team is one as important as the music itself. I would like people to remember that Eber is not only an artist but a creative, without borders and they can be too. Not limiting yourself is the first step.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to a museum, if its my friend that means that they would most likely be interested in art. There are soo many Museums in Toronto. I would start with the AGO – Art Gallery of Toronto for some history lessons. Then the science centre for some futuristic, scifi vibes. I would then go painting. I must say that I am the worst painter ever but Its one of those things that I try to do without expectation. Salsa dancing is definitely a must! We have Lula Lounge which has a live Cuban band very often and we can’t miss the Toronto food tour. Toronto has one of the best food scenes in North America. The Jamaican food is incredible, Hakka, Indian and Chinese restaurants are off the chain. I would try to take some days away from the city and go to a provincial – most likely Algonquin Park. I would take them canoeing and backcountry camping to connect with nature and themselves. Lastly, I would do a trip to Montreal. The vibe in Montreal is so different from Toronto. Some describe it as Toronto with an european twist and i definitely see it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank Jamlec one of the best directors I know for always reminding me that there’s always a way to include the Dominican sauce in everything I create. I want to shout out to Babi, my mentor, friend and creative director. JB, for being a genius behind the scenes and Looch for bringing it back to el patio. I’m really grateful for the people I have around. We really have a stacked team of super talented folks ready to go.
