We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebeny Bland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ebeny, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
While I knew I would more than likely become my own boss at some point, I had no idea where it would stem from.
In February of 2019, I endured a neck injury while performing a prenatal massage. I’d only been in the massage therapy field for approximately 2 years, before it happened. So, I clearly had no desire to walk away from the field so early on. However, with the reality of life we go with the punches and move on.
In my recovery period, I became very intentional with creating a space of serenity within my home through warm baths, music, and candles. It ended up becoming the most therapeutic gift during my recovery.
I realized that it was possible to promote self care through products, whether I was able to fall back into the field of massage therapy or not.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Escape Haven & Co., simply started as a candle company. While candles are a very common item, we wanted to convey something unique. Our candles are highly desired, because of the messages attached to them. With names like peace, goodness, love, and joy, you have no choice but to consider great things when you first glance at the labels. Our mission is to ensure that our customers take time daily to escape from the cares of the world, and embrace the love and joy of God.
With the expansion of our company, we have branched out into manufacturing and creating signature candles for other businesses, through the understanding of their mission and vision.
The growth of this company does not match the 2 1/2 years it has been in operation. You may find it funny, but Escape Haven & Co. started with the launch of 1 candle and $35. There were not options, but only one candle to choose from for approximately 3 months, before we were able to introduce another scent.
It was very important that I followed the blueprint God gave me, even if I had access to an easier route.
Every transitional part of the business, came at a very inconvenient time. It has definitely not been an easy walk, but a very rewarding one. If I could give any advice, it would simply be, “Move, when God gives you the okay to do so”. If I had waited for the typically requirements, I would not be where I am today.
Entrepreneurship can feel lonely at times, as everyone will not understand the sacrifices or the process, but there will be a time to connect, and when that time comes, be genuinely you! Those relationships will give you free access to people and things, others have to pay for.
Escape Haven & Co. is now sought after for workshops, mentorships, custom candles, events etc. As a very transparent CEO, I encourage you to follow me on this journey, as I continue to learn and grow.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a self care queen,
Isle of Palms beach & Escape Haven & Co. Day Spa are at the top of the list.

I would make it a priority to visit at least two root top restaurants in downtown, Charleston.
– Revival & The Oak Room has become my two favorite restaurants this year
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been blessed to have a very supportive fiance & family throughout my entire process. Two of my most influential mentors would include Sharmin Washington & Keisha Smith |. The Biz Growth Coach. My dear friend, Jamita Brown (Children’s book author) has been the my visionary support in more ways, I could count.
