We had the good fortune of connecting with Dunston Darius and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dunston, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose to pursue an artistic career because it always challenges me in different aspects of my life. Something that I make can satisfy me, but it may not be the same for someone else. That’s the beauty of art. Everyone has their own perspective. There’s never the same answer.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art started out very rigid and structural but, is now changing to be more freeform. I can say as of now it’s becoming more of what I want to make instead of what people would expect. I think what sets me apart from others is the time I take with my work and how I want it to be consumed. I’m most proud of how I understand myself as an artist now. It took me a while to separate from what a title of a graphic designer is and an artist. I got where I am today by taking a risk. Art was something I just messed around with and just accepted that I was good at it but never thought I could take it any further. I want the world to know that I left something behind. I never want to pass and the world remembers me for selling very expensive paintings but for how much impact my work made.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I defiantly would take them to the west egg! it is literally the best breakfast spot to me. Little five points is always a go-to if someone looking for good art and clothes. The best hang-out spot has to be the beltline. Anywhere from food drinks and people it has it all.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout-out to four people. The first being my parents. They have always been there with anything I do and always have my back. The second is my girlfriend. That girl is literally my number one fan and is always making sure that I know that I’m on the right course. The third is my brother (best friend). I always know that he will make sure I’m not slacking and that he always has my back with any type of work I want to do. The last is another one of my best friends. I can talk to him about any and we always end having the same problems on our mind but he’s the best person I know who will make sure I don’t lose focus of my goals.
