We had the good fortune of connecting with Drs. Amber & Ashley Goodman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drs. Amber & Ashley, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson our business/career has taught us as authors is that there is no right or wrong way when it comes to the writing process. Sometimes it can take years, months, weeks, or just a few days to write a book. A book can have a few chapters or many pages depending on how much you want to share and if there will be multiple volumes or a series.

Also, as authors, we learned it is crucial to find an editor and team that will help you create, advertise, and publish your work. As an author, when choosing an editor and marketing/advertisement team, be sure that they will not change your writing style or voice through your writing. Lastly, we learned that creating advertising material such as an author web page and flyers for social media may require financial investments. Editing and revising may take longer than the expected turnaround deadlines, and as an author time must be dedicated to ensure what you want your books to entail.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
We want the world to know that our brand is about us being Christians, born-again believers, identical twins, young black women, and professionals. We are unique and will be a part of history in the making. Now more than ever is the time that professional black women are being elected, nominated, and recognized for their gifts, talents, and hard work. Our story will cause us to be known as two women who love Jesus Christ, who love His people, and have made an influential impact by completing their destiny until they take their last breath down here on the earth as faithful ambassadors of His kingdom.

We are currently self-published authors of three books (“A Double Portion to Know Him,” “The Outcast Pharmacist,” and “Abba Father & Me: A Daily Devotional”) with many more books to come. What sets our writing apart from others is that our writing style is descriptive yet concise, making it easily digestible for our target readers. We write books that answer questions and thoughts many may have or even bring solutions.

Sometimes people are afraid to ask questions out loud or do not have anyone to go to for answers. Such questions about their life, destiny, or purpose, so we write from a place for our readers and supporters to find hope, encouragement, and faith in Jesus Christ just like we have found. We had to be set free from our way of thinking. As previously mentioned, we believed for years that we were inadequate when it came to writing. We overcame the challenges by believing in the word of God and having our support system speak life and encouragement into our lives.

Lessons that we have learned are to be at peace and enjoy the process because one day, our current circumstances and situations won’t be the same. From this, we learned the lesson to encourage others through our experiences and to give insight whenever possible. We have also learned that it is ok to be different and to sound unorthodox to others about your dreams, ideas, and vision as long as they are in the perfect will of God. You may ask, “How do I know if my dreams, ideas, and vision are in His perfect will?” Well, you know when they are because you won’t experience torment, shame, or sorrowfulness. This means you are at peace, and wherever peace is, there is victory.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If our best friend was visiting the area, we would take her to church, a professional basketball game, or a football game. We would also go shopping and eat at some highly recommended restaurants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our success and where we are in life now is all due to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Because of Him, we have an amazing support system. Our support system consists of the Holy Spirit, our parents (Dr. Carl B. Goodman & Jacqueline Goodman), Overseer Prophet Daniel Powell, Sr. & Prophetess Esther Powell, our family, friends, and church home (Heaven to Earth Worship Center).
