We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Tenisha Bibbs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Tenisha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started my own business Ask A Doula Newborn Services in 2018. I was like most people scared and did not know what the outcome would look like. I was afraid to hire anyone simply because I did not know if they would give the same quality of work that I did. My business in two year have grown, even during the pandemic. As I grow I also grew my services such as lactation, sleep coaching, doula courses for new moms and birthworkers and so much more. Our vision is to provide quality loving work to each of my families. We provide education, support and comfort to our families which enables us to effectively communicate within the family and with other support professionals, advocate for mother, child and family, and facilitate essential needs and home-transition support for newborn and mother care.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ask A Doula Newborn Services is a dream come true. I remember just talking about it. I always knew the passion that I had for newborn babies growing up and I never thought in my wildest dreams that one day I would own my own newborn services company. I use to work for a company for 8 years and, in that time, I was never able to build the relationship with the clients that I was serving. I knew that in order to build an amazing trustworthy clientele, I had to be on my own, so that I could impact my clients and the birth worker community. What I’m most proud about are the services that we provide for our new moms; breastfeeding, sleep coaching, parent education, nutrition health for pregnancy, postpartum care and a wide range of support services. One of the biggest challenges that we had is making sure that we can keep our newborn care specialist working and being able to fulfil the demand. The lessons that AADNS has learned is to make sure that we send our client reminders and have them do surveys so that we can provide the quality service that they deserve. The biggest things that we want the world to know about Ask A Doula Newborn Services is that we give each client the best customer service and experience. We provide support, education and comfort knowing that their newborn baby is in good hands.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend was visiting, I would take her to the city of Atlanta. The first thing that we would get is a massage with a mocktail, well for me. We would take a tour of Atlanta and perhaps visit the mountains. We would go to a nice restaurant maybe Fogo de Chao in Buckhead. I believe some fun things to do in Atlanta would be to go to the Georgia Aquarium, and to also take a tour of the CNN center and Coca-Cola. Centennial Olympic Park is also a beautiful place to walk and just have fun, or even a picnic.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out to all of the hard-working moms who have full responsibility and who still work hard. I want to shout out to you because you choose to make it despite any obstacles that come your way, and disappointments that could have shattered your dreams. You choose to fight through these pains and you manage to keep a smile on your face. I recognize all of your dedication, hard work, honesty and drive to win, no matter what the situation looks like.
