We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Sylvia Gholston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Sylvia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Working as an educator, I always has the option to teach what I wanted, how I wanted. To see my students progress because of what I provided, made me understand that I could do the same thing. So my thoughts took a hold of me and I stepped out and practiced what I was teaching.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own the first Home Staging Franchise in Atlanta, Showhomes of Cobb. The way I design a room sets me a part from the competition. But more than that, I communicate with clients. I respond to calls, emails, and text. What I say, I do. I am most proud of and excited to say that my customer service is above the bar that I set. I got to where I am through hardwork and dedication. It was not easy and it still is not easy. I overcome many challenges by being a women and a Black women. What I have learned is that if you keep pushing and stay ethical, you will acheive your dreams. Never give up. I want the world to know that staging helps homeowners and realtors to sell homes for a higher price. That interior designers work very hard and when you see the beauty provided, you should not complain about the price. My brand helps with all of these things. If anyone needs staging or interior design, call me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So many places in metro Atlanta. But we would start off at the Battery and have drinks at Cru, then we are having dinner at Yardhouse. Since there are so many places to visit at the Battery, we will get a daiquiri and just walk. For the next two days we will site see and do the aquarium, King Center, African American Civil Rights Center, and the World of Coke. Junk food and Waffle House on the menu. In the Spring, Summer, and Fall, you can find excitement at outdoor concerts. We will go and see many artists because the list is long. The last day, we are going South City Kitchen or Capers for dinner. You cannot go wrong with either. Then Jazz at the High Museum.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The sisters in my CAMP prayer group. They have supported my dream of owning a business since day one. Also, my partner in this busines, my husband Reggie. It is hard working with your spouse, but I know our success will be because we went through this together.
