We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Ramon Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Ramon, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Until a man identifies with who he is and where he came from (his origin), then and only then can he/she move forward in life. This is a quote that I have written some years ago that I also have included before the introduction of my books. This quote is special to me because it was in prison where I begin to identify with who I was. What I like about it is that before prison I was an unconscious man, but while serving time I became a conscious man once I surrendered to God. I am who I am today because God allowed my down time to become my up uplifting time.
What should our readers know about your business?
When we say business, I’m a professional barber (Tonsorial Artist), salon owner, musician, educator, counselor, investor, flooring specialist, apparel, and minister. Everything that I do is successful do to my faith and belief in God. What I’m most excited about is that whatever I put my mind to I bring it to pass. Success in business is not easy because it takes hard work, consistency, dedication, and sacrifice. Everyone wants to be successful, but many fail because they want to party. What I’ve learned in business is that if you’re looking for people you know to support you especially family, stop looking…… it will always be those that you don’t know to support you. What I want the word to know is that I’m just Ramon A. Carter Sr., from the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, even though I served 10yrs. of my life in prison I did not allow the system to break me. I am my own brand, and I invest into myself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If it wasn’t a pandemic I would take someone to 1. Morrow’s to eat in New Orleans, 2. Deesxquisite for some good seafood, 3. A good second-line if it’s a Sunday, hangout at Reign NOLA. I don’t really hang out in the streets too much unless it’s with family because these streets are really tuff these days.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My God! There are many people that I could shoutout, my mother and father especially. It was their prayers that kept me covered when I couldn’t cover myself. My Sister Carla Pernell-Cyprian is the one who inspired me to write my first book after appearing on her radio talk show. My Brother Cory Ricks for shouting me out for this interview, church family, and social media followers.
