We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Paulette Harper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Paulette, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
As a distinguished author with a collection of 14 acclaimed books, a seasoned publisher, and an accomplished nonfiction book coach, it may surprise some to realize that the power to alter the course of your life or establish a thriving business lies within a single book. This transformation begins with the selection of a compelling topic, coupled with your expertise and deep knowledge in your chosen field.
When contemplating the subject matter for your writing endeavor, it becomes essential to consider the market’s willingness to invest. For instance, if you possess a wealth of knowledge in areas like marketing, web development, or accounting, you can craft content around these topics and extend your services as a consultant or coach. Similarly, if you have hands-on experience in specific industries like healthcare, education, or technology, you can develop valuable content and offer it in the form of online courses or e-books. Regardless of your area of expertise, you possess the ability to generate content that not only educates but also commands a price. By crafting your work with authority and credibility, you’ll pave the way for prosperous and lucrative content creation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Certainly, my professional life revolves around two primary pursuits: writing books and coaching others to do the same. These activities consume a significant portion of my time, and here’s a more detailed breakdown of how they occupy my days:
Writing Books:
Writing is at the core of my professional identity. Crafting a book is a labor-intensive and time-consuming process that demands meticulous planning, research, and creativity. My days often begin with diving into the world I’m creating, developing characters, and advancing the storyline. The writing process involves countless hours of drafting, revising, and refining the manuscript to ensure it meets my high standards of quality. Whether it’s fiction or nonfiction, each project is a unique journey that demands my full attention.
Coaching and Mentoring:
Beyond my own writing, a substantial part of my professional life is dedicated to coaching and mentoring aspiring writers. This involves guiding them through the intricacies of the writing process, from idea conception to publication. I conduct one-on-one sessions, offer constructive feedback, and provide valuable insights into the publishing industry. Additionally, I help individuals shape their unique voices and perspectives, just as I do with my own work.
Research and Development:
Staying at the forefront of the literary world requires ongoing research and development. I dedicate time to staying updated on literary trends, market demands, and emerging technologies in publishing. This ensures that my own writing remains fresh and relevant, and it allows me to provide up-to-date guidance to those I mentor.
Engagement with Readers and the Writing Community:
Building and maintaining a connection with my readers and the broader writing community is crucial. This involves engaging with readers through social media, book signings, and author events. Additionally, I actively participate in writing workshops, conferences, and online forums to exchange ideas with fellow writers and stay connected with the writing community.
In summary, my professional life is intricately woven into the art and craft of writing, whether I’m engrossed in the creation of my own literary works or dedicated to helping others embark on their writing journeys. These activities demand continuous effort, dedication, and passion, but they also provide immense fulfillment as I see stories come to life and witness the growth and success of aspiring writers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To show friends and family the best time ever, we would go to San Francisco. We would start your day with the breathtaking sight of the sun rising over the Golden Gate Bridge. The play of early light against the famous International Orange structure, with San Francisco Bay and the Marin Headlands in the background, creates a mesmerizing view.
You can’t come to San Francisco without going to Fisherman’s Wharf. The lively waterfront market, bustling with seafood vendors, street performers, and the famous sea lions at Pier 39, presents a vibrant tableau of San Francisco’s maritime heritage.
We’d spend the afternoon in the vast Golden Gate Park, home to gardens, museums, and tranquil lakes. The Japanese Tea Garden, with its intricate landscaping and serene atmosphere, is a highlight.
Anyone coming to the “Bay” will have an amazing time in the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my coaches, whose invaluable contributions have been pivotal in shaping both my personal life and business success. They have a remarkable ability to unearth creativity within me, often at times when I was unaware of its existence. Their relentless encouragement has spurred my growth and development as an entrepreneur. I am deeply thankful for their wisdom, guidance, and counsel and will always cherish their impact on my journey.
