We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Nicole Steele and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Nicole, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
If I had to identify the most important factors behind my success it would actually be narrowed down to three primary things. The first is understanding how the work I do to empower ladies, leaders, and little girls is part of my life’s purpose. Knowing this helps to drive me and helps assure me that the work my team and I do and the lives we are able to impact matter, and are for a far greater purpose than what we may understand now. The second factor behind my success is persistence. This line of work is challenging at time, however it’s by far the most rewarding work I could ever do. I have learned over the years the importance of persistence and pressing through seasons of adversity and opposition. I have learned that the journey is not for the faint at heart, but if I will stay the course and remain committed to the cost and persistent in my pursuit, that I can’t loose. Lastly the final important factor behind my success has been the dynamic women I have been able to partner with throughout this journey. To have such an incredible team of women on my team and in my inner circle, makes all the difference in the world.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being a multi-faceted business women I have one vision and two vehicles by which to accomplish that mission. My mission is to empower ladies, leaders and little girls and I do that through Gem Makers, LLC which provides ladies and leaders coaching, business consulting, conferences and creative content (including books, curriculum, podcast, and more). In addition, I am also the Founder and Executive Director of an award winning faith-based mentoring and leadership program for girls, called Diamond In The Rough. One of the things that sets our organizations a part is a proven model that my team and I have been able to create, that works. There are many things that get me excited and make me proud, but most of all it is being able to witness the countless lives transformed by the work we do. I associate my success today to being a life-long learner. Even now with 30 years of experience, I realize I have not yet arrived and as long as I have breath in my body, there is an opportunity to learn and grow. My faith in God has been the thing that has helped me through every trial and challenge I have faced both personally and professionally. There is comfort that comes in always knowing I don’t have to walk alone and that He will always be there to lead and guide me. I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way, including the importance of embracing your own personal path and the power of being able to connect it with a larger purpose. I wish more people would grasp this concept. I think if they would, they would find themselves being more productive and feeling more fulfilled. I want the world to know the power of SHE. We must continue to create spaces for women and girls to be empowered and equipped for an ever changing world. Our value is immeasurable and our voice matters, and I am just grateful to be a small part of a global revolution that is awakening the untapped power and potential of women and girls.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my!!! Pre COVID, my girls and I would plan a power packed week at an ocean front resort complete with a scenic ocean views. Our week would be packed with good food, laughter and fun. Rest would be a priority with certain days open to being spontaneous, but would also include a deliciously prepared breakfast each day with all my favorites, live jazz, followed by a full spa treatment and pampering package. At some point throughout our time we would see some historic sites and do some shopping, followed by sensational food rotating each day between a full seafood spread, Mexican food, soul food and Italian food. Our entertainment would include a live concert, comedy show, game night and more, complete with a good old school play list. Our weekend wouldn’t be complete without carving time out to feed our spirit by visiting or watching a service, listening to gospel music and reflecting together on the goodness of God. While the well known destinations spots are great, I am always fascinated with the treasures that are often hidden in plain sight like local restaurants, museums, small festivals and more.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this Shout Out to my incredible family including my handsome husband, beautiful daughters, amazing mother and sisters who have sacrificed tremendously in their support of my life’s mission and the work I do. In addition, I would also like to shout out my appreciation to the phenomenal women who serve shoulder to shoulder on the front lines with me and have been able to grasp the vision and run with it. I am eternally grateful for their commitment and support.
