Hi Dr. Kafilat, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This is a great question that constantly reminds me of my humble beginnings, so thank you for asking.

The decision to start Fides Health Advocates, LLC was driven by personal experiences witnessing the challenges in the healthcare system, particularly during a loved one’s illness. Fueled by a commitment to transform these challenges into positive change, the business was founded with a mission to bridge the gap between patients and the healthcare system. The goal is to provide holistic, patient-centric care, especially for families dealing with chronic illnesses like cancer, and to inspire a broader movement toward health equity and ease in navigating the complex healthcare system.

What should our readers know about your business?
Fides Health Advocates, LLC is a transformative healthcare advocacy business focused on bridging gaps in patient care, particularly for families dealing with cancer. Its unique, holistic approach sets it apart, driven by a commitment to health equity. While my journey has not been easy, I have consistently overcame challenges through adaptability, collaboration, and building a diverse team. Fides is a positive change in healthcare, embodying resilience, compassion, and a commitment to putting patients first.

What I am most proud of is our commitment to improving lives, advocating for health equity, and fostering a future where healthcare is truly about the patient, irrespective of their background or circumstances. The lessons learned along the way are invaluable. One key lesson is the importance of adaptability in the face of evolving challenges. The healthcare landscape is dynamic, and my ability to adjust company strategies and offerings has been crucial. Building a strong and diverse collaborating partners has also been instrumental in overcoming challenges.

Moreover, collaboration has been a cornerstone of our success. Collaborating with local healthcare providers, national conferences, and advocacy organizations has amplified our impact. The journey has emphasized the significance of listening to the needs of the community we serve, fostering genuine connections, and adapting our services to meet those needs.

What I want the world to know about Fides Health Advocates is that we are not just a service provider; we are advocates for positive change in healthcare. Our brand represents trust, understanding, and care. We want to inspire individuals and communities to actively participate in their healthcare decisions, fostering a future where health equity is not just an aspiration but a reality.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This will be interesting considering I am an undercover introvert. I would take my friend to Ponce city market roof top to experience the beautiful views while we sit and chat about life. A week long trip will involve checking out some of the amazing national parks around Georgia, including Tallulah George, Amicalola. We would would go to an art class at Painting with A Twist, eat at Bismillah Cafe, spa at iCare medspa in Dekalb, and/or Luminous Beauty Bar in Canton. We would conclude the trip with shopping at Georgia 400 premium outlet, because let’s be honest… what is a girls’ trip without shopping and a little spa date!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In dedicating my shoutout, I extend heartfelt gratitude to the beautiful parents God has blessed me with. Their constant support has been the cornerstone of my journey, instilling in me the values of perseverance and compassion. Their belief in my endeavors has been a constant source of strength, and I am grateful for the foundation they’ve laid.

I also extend credit to my spouse and brothers, whose support and understanding have been a pillar of strength. In the delicate balance of being a parent to three young children, a business owner, and a caregiver, their encouragement has been indispensable. Their belief in my vision for Fides Health Advocates is a motivating force that has fueled my determination.

My children, my greatest inspiration, deserve recognition for their resilience and understanding during the demanding moments of this journey. Their unconditional love is a driving force behind my pursuit of positive change.

Special credit goes to the wonderful oncology staff at Northside Hospital- Cumming. Their dedication to compassionate care has not only impacted my personal and professional journey, but has inspired the mission of Fides. Their persistent efforts in supporting families affected by cancer deserve recognition and gratitude.
