We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jarrett Manning and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Jarrett, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being an accomplished dentist, a lot of people ask me, “Why hair?” My response is simple. Why not hair? I truly care about the impact of stylish healthy hair. Growing up, I tried every style in the book and did the “big chop” multiple times. I see hair as a way of setting yourself apart and expressing who you are. I’ve has experienced firsthand the confidence that comes from beautiful moisturized hair and how when your hair is on point your attitude is on point as well. The world first saw my hair on Season 6 of Bravo TV’s Married to Medicine. Since then, I had several people messaging me, asking me how I created my signature style. I created Honey Envy to inspire people to love their hair again and to use that confidence to be or do anything!
What should our readers know about your business?
At Honey Envy we build every product on the firm belief that beautiful and healthy hair should be the standard, not the exception. This is the “why” behind our launch of the Honey Envy hair care line. We are laying the foundation for people to have incredible hair days, every day. We offer luxurious, high-quality hair care products for every hair texture with the single goal of you falling deeper in love with your hair daily! Honey Envy seeks to say goodbye to breakage, unwelcomed textures, dry strands, frizz or unruly curls and hello to chic, glamorous styles. You know, the kind of hair you wish to see every time you pass a mirror. All our formulas are scientifically backed and doctor-created with natural, botanical ingredients to keep your hair hydrated and healthy. At the center of our brand is one key ingredient: honey. Honey is an emollient, locking in moisture and acting as a natural conditioner to minimize breakage and frizz. With consistent use, honey has also been found to improve scalp health which leads to boosted hair growth and holistically healthy hair from root to tip. The Honey Envy Method, which drenches your hair with moisture, is a hydrating building block that keeps your hair silky, smooth, and soft from the inside out. We look forward to you adoring it just as much as we do. The intention we set is for your hair to be thicker, smoother, and healthier than ever before, and we have full confidence that Honey Envy can deliver on that promise. Parabens or formaldehyde are not found in our products, and we’re proud to be made in the USA with cruelty-free practices. Honey Envy is a product line that caters to ALL textures. That’s what sets us apart because regardless of texture all hair should be envied. We recently launched Honey Envy in June, and I’m excited and overwhelmed about the tremendous support that we’ve received. Honey Envy is a movement, and it’s truly a blessing to be able to connect with people. I’ve been a business owner for the past 10 years. Being a business owner is one thing, but being a serial entrepreneur poses another set of challenges. I took a risk and decided to launch a brand during a pandemic. That risk has paid off greatly, but for some strange reason, society and social media tend to paint an unrealistic view of business ownership. I think entrepreneurship has been highly glamorized. It’s shown as if everything is always going well 100 percent of the time. That’s far from the truth. Of course, for me, the good of having multiple businesses far outweighs the bad. I just never wait to give a false narrative of what building your own empire is really about.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Whew honey, I absolutely love a good time, and thank God Atlanta is one of the most entertaining cities in the world. Now assuming we’re talking a post pandemic visit and because I’m such a foodie, our first stop will be dinner and drinks at Ecco on 7th street in Midtown. I just love the atmosphere there. The bar area is always a good time. You can’t show someone Atlanta without going to places that highlight Atlanta history, like the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site and the Atlanta Center for Civil and Human Rights. Since I’m a MS coast girl, I would take my bestie to a few seafood like Krabqueenz Seafood. We’d make a stop at Slutty Vegan’s, visit the Trap Museum, and take a tour of Tyler Perry Studios. On Thursday, we would visit the Battery on game day. We’d bar hop, go bowling, hang out at Rocky Patel’s, and enjoy some music at the Coca-Cola Roxy. We’d check out a show at the Fox Theatre. We would spend a day shopping at the Avalon and The Shops Buckhead and then head to the Four Seasons for much needed massages. On the weekend, hitting up one of Ford Fry’s restaurants is a must. Late night at Marcel is a must. West Midtown is booming. There is absolutely no party like a house party, and it’s such a fun way to show true Southern hospitality, so on Saturday, we would have a house party with an indoor/outdoor chill vibe and invite all our friends over for a relaxing good time. The remainder of the trip would be laid back. We’d attend Sunday service at the House of Hope Atlanta, and then do brunch at the Garden Room.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ultimately, our hair care products are not just about hair. Honey Envy is about women supporting other women in all areas. Talking about hair is a catalyst to larger conversations that bond women and provides a vehicle to support each other in a world where women need support. With that said, I want to shoutout to all women who are out there making moves while rocking beautiful, healthy hair. I want to shoutout all the women who support Honey Envy and those that will support in the future. Lastly, I want to shoutout all the women in my circle. When you hang around dope women, it makes you want to be fly as well. I just want to thank my circle for always pushing me towards greater.
