We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Gracie Davenport and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Gracie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I previously worked as a staff pelvic health physical therapist for almost 5 years. While working in different high volume settings has given me the experience and exposure I needed, career burn-out was at its peak.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a pelvic health physical therapist treating women of all ages for symptoms associated with urinary, sexual, bowel health, pregnancy, post partum, orthopedic conditions and much more!
Over the last few years, my approach to care has been an ongoing development. Through mentorship and experience (both professional and personal), I wholeheartedly believe in the assessment of the whole body and the integration of mind-body practices when it comes to healing. I personally struggled with chronic physical symptoms for years in my early 20’s until I implemented a holistic approach. There is always much more to our story than a diagnosis or symptom. It is my passion to address and consider these unique layers with each client if necessary. I get so excited about educating clients about their symptoms and providing long awaited answers to those who have been searching for help for months or even years. My goal is getting to the root for long term resolution of symptoms, not just management.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Chattanooga. I have lived here for 2 years, and there is still so much more to explore and see. When family and friends visit, we always plan our time together around food, haha! Chattanooga has some of the BEST local food spots. To name a few: Wooden City, Main Street Meats, Taco Mamacita, The Boathouse, Il primo, etc. Fun spots for drinks include all of those restaurants, but also Whiskey Thief at the Edwin Hotel. If outdoors are your thing, there’s tons of local tour guides for hiking, trails, biking, climbing, etc!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Put simply, I wouldn’t be here without God. “Here” meaning in Chattanooga, TN, here meaning at the place in life where I feel confident and capable, here meaning the personal healing and work I have put in over the last several years. His guidance, grace, and many blessings have led me to exactly where I am today. All the glory to Him.
My husband has also been the real MVP! I am not much of a risk taker, and he really encouraged and supported my decision to start my own practice. He truly believed I could do it, and do it well. If it wasn’t for his faith in me, I would never have taken the plunge. I had and have the best by my side, including other family and friends.
My clients also deserve so much credit. When starting a practice or business of any kind, you really can’t say without a doubt who will support you and who will not. However, the majority of my clients believed in me and my skill level and without hesitation continued care with me. I am forever grateful for them, as they are exactly why I do what I do! Most of my clients are through word of mouth. So again, my clients spreading the word and being open about their experiences in pelvic health therapy has helped my business grow more than anything!
