We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Elesia Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Elesia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was aware of organizations that focused on providing menstrual products for other demographics such as incarcerated women and homeless women. I began doing research on the lack of access to feminine hygiene items for students and was shocked to see this is a prevalent issue across the country and many students miss valuable academic hours due to lack of access to these items. I decided to do something about it and create a non-profit that could help meet the need while advocating and educating public officials on the issue and making a call to action for specific funding to help these students. In speaking with school nurses, social workers, and teachers I found that many of them are using personal funds to have a supply of feminine hygiene items for students. Posh Pack, Inc. works to provide these items beyond what the school offers so teachers are not having to do it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Posh Pack, Inc. was originally focused on keeping students in the classroom through access to feminine hygiene. We were proud of this goal and continue to work towards it. Nevertheless, when the pandemic started students were learning from home which created a challenge for us. We expanded our focus beyond schools and gave to multiple organizations connected to young women in the community that needed these items. We have now donated to schools, food pantries, other non-profits, and ministry groups. I am very proud of our ability to adapt in unprecedented times and serve a wider audience as it was truly needed in the pandemic. We also started working closely with school social workers to reach economically challenged students and families. The biggest lesson learned for me is to be flexible and adapt. I believe it is imperative to be willing to expand your audience according to what is needed. There were organizations we worked with that saw a 80% increase in ask for feminine hygiene. It was vital that Posh Pack Inc. be a part of the resolve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many good spots in the city to explore! For food and drink I would take them to Two Urban Licks, Poor Calvins, Busy Bees, Cru Wine Bar, Antico, Stoney River Steak House, the Garden Room, Slutty Vegan, and Twisted Soul. If the weather was good I would take them to a picnic in Piedmont park. You can never go wrong with a wine tasting at the Wine Shoe. Catching a show at the tabernacle is always great. I’m a crafty person so I would fit in a candle making or DIY class. I also like to stay active and enjoy introducing friends to Trap Pilates and you cannot forget the Trap Museum. Although touristy I have never met anyone not impressed by the Georgia Aquarium especially on one of their adult only theme nights! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The board members of Posh Pack Incorporated deserve a shoutout for sure. They work tirelessly toward our mission and vision and our impact wouldn’t be possible without them. We have a 8 person board that fundraises, makes donation drops, promotes, and supports Posh Pack Inc! We collectively work towards empowering young women through access to feminine hygiene essentials!
