We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Angila CURVEY-CHUKWU and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Angila, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a teenager and young adult, I struggled with abandonment, addiction, and abuse. This birthed a deep passion to make a change and create a safe space for individuals and their loved ones dealing with these issues. Being the voice of hope and encouragement to work through these issues to be the best version of yourself.

Through my experience and healing journey, I recognized the gaps and challenges that needed to be addressed and created a clear mission and vision for A’Michealle, to empower communities one person at a time.

The mission is possible through workshops, coaching, and speaking engagements. As well as my book, “Through the Tears” and devotional journal “Thoughts. Hopes. Dreams.”

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
A’Michealle was founded on love and compassion. As I started creating new programs, I thought of what was missing in my life during the stage of the audience I was looking to reach. I have a passion for working with adolescents and young adults in the areas of becoming productive citizens of the community and building and maintaining positive relationships. identifying and achieving personal goals, and conflict resolution.

I use my experiences as a mother who had to overcome many obstacles, to share with parents how to break the barriers between them and their children.

My past has allowed me to see things from both perspectives, the child who is hurting and does not know how to communicate or cope with the issues of abandonment, low self-esteem, addiction, anger, resentment, depression, and so much more. The parent that is doing the best they can to hold it all together because they have yet to deal with their past traumas but want the best for their child or children and are not sure where or how to start. I do not always have the answer but, we will work together to find it.

As a speaker, pod-cast co-host, and author, I use these platforms to educate, empower, and encourage audiences. I use my voice to spread hope to those who have lost it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have done much partying in my younger days. At this stage of my life, the best trip for me is one that consists of lots of rest time. This girl loves her naps. They are enjoyed and necessary. My favorite trips are those with no itinerary. Be prepared with something cute to slip on “just in case” we decide to step out but mostly be prepared with comfy pajamas and fuzzy socks. A glass of Sangria and binge-watching standup comedy is the perfect night for me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh wow! This is hard. There are so many. I have been blessed to have some amazing people in my corner. My family has been so supportive. They continue to encourage me to keep going and to keep growing. I have to give a special shoutout to two people who never gave up on me and loved me even when I did not love myself, my mother and my grandfather.

It was not until I became a mother that I started to understand and appreciate my mother. She gave so much of herself to take care of me the best way that she knew how. No matter how much I pushed her away, she was always there waiting for me with open arms. She taught me to always look for the silver lining in every situation as there is always something to learn from it. Dorothea Curvey is a true ray of sunshine to all who encounter her.

My grandfather, Preston Curvey, Sr, was a man of few words, but when he spoke he dropped so many nuggets of wisdom. When I would visit he would have me read an article in the newspaper so we could discuss it. Our chats had no limits on topics but my favorite was hearing about my grandfather’s journey from a boy who had lost so much to a man who worked hard to take care of his family. Although he is no longer here on earth with us, he lives in the many lives he touched.
