We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. A’lon Holliday and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. A’lon, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Everyone wants to be a part of the building of a successful business. However, not everyone its meant to come with you on that journey. You lose friends and learn who in your circle really supports you. And when I say support I mean just showing love. Not necessarily monetarily. We have lost business partners and relationships with artist who are not here for the hard work and grind but here for the celebrity. The status of running a successful concert series and label but not the hard work that comes into it. So, cutting friendships and the realization that the people you respected didn’t really respect you. I was listening to a lyric the other day and it was like ” people will watch your story but won’t like it” That sums it up.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I build brands and create a place where ideas can prosper in a structured business environment. I build Magnanimous world wide to create an organization that works in the industries of work force development, music, and education. Building programs to support young adults who have the drive but need that mentorship component to help them reach further. Currently we just established Kryptonite North America an organization that helps create leaders in the new virtual world. In the areas of Diversity and inclusion we help the organization understand the culture they have created and how to improve it.
Getting to the point I am today wasn’t easy and it wasn’t hard. I am not were I want to be because I always feel there’s room to do better or grow. I see a little light at the end of the tunnel. I feel professionally I am just beginning my journey.
The lessons I have learned along the way are so many but I can narrow it down to a few important ones. Always bet on yourself. Awalys! If you don’t believe the dream than you can’t expect others to.
Also you don’t need a lot of people around you to have a strong team. Don’t go into with the mindset you can do it all by yourself. Filter out your team and put them in the strongest position to help the organization succeed.
I want the world to know about my story is anything is possible and you can come back from anything in life. The only competition is you!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Great question. My friends come in to town we are getting some food first. I love Innman park area to eat. Beetlecatatl is my spot right now. But they have tons of great restaurants to choose from. Brazilian to Mexican. Get some lobster rolls and sit out and people watch. You can bar hop on Friday night and have a blast. Marietta square is nice to hang out as well. Great restaurants and a good crowd. I am an old school guy so 90’s hip hop at bolt on a Saturday night is the move. Great wings and great music. In the middle of the week you can hit the belt line and Piedmont park if the weather is good. I really don’t go to clubs but there are a few great comedy spots to visit. The punchline comedy club is great.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love this! Truly an important part in my navigation in the industry and Atlanta. So many people I am grateful for! First and most important is my wife Tiffany. Solid as they come and it’s a blessing to have her in my life to be so supportive. My business partners Terence Hover and Maurice Calhoun who have been key reason why our music and artist have been so successful this year. Lastly, the mentors that I am blessed to call friends Michael German and Dr. Rome Stockett. Joining the 100 Blackmen of Dekalb gave me the opportunity to meet them and I continue to learn from them each time we speak. As far as dedication to my story I would like to shoutout my mom. My first look at what entrepreneurship looks like.
