We had the good fortune of connecting with Dorothee Rechenberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dorothee, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I am a dance teacher and when I discovered yoga in New York, I knew this was going to transform my life. It became my new life style and I decided to spread the well-being to the world around me, one heart at the time, throught movement, meditation and a hint of yoga philosophy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My story begins in France (where I am from). I decided to follow my heart, take a leap, and become a dance teacher. Little that I knew that this profession would bring me everywhere around the world, from Paris to South America, Antartica, Europe and America. I took my first Yoga class in New York City. I remember the teacher saying that I could let everything that happened go, what will happen later go too and stay in the present moment. That was a revelation! Could we really live in the present moment without overthinking about the past and the future? Yes. That lead me to become a Yoga instructor. I founded Dot Yoga in Atlanta to spread joy to a maximum of people, through movements, one heart at the time. The biggest challenge I have encounter is communication: how to advertise and to gather more people in my classes. It is not so easy to find new clients. I keep advertising and often it also works by word of mouth. And when the new participants come back and leave with a big smile, I know that I am filling up my purpose.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would visit Ponce City Market with a stop on the roof top (best for sunset!) and take the Beltline to reach Krog Street. We might eat at the Flower Child around Lenox and then go for a coffee and pastries at Alon’s bakery at Phipps Plaza. We would go watch a hawks game in the State Farm Arena and a movie in Ipic theater at Colony square, and eat a Kings of Pop ice cream. Ww would visit the Martin Luther King Center. I think we would go for a few hikes in the Bamboo forrest along the Chatahoochee river at Arabia Mountain and go on the top of the Indian Seat trail for the view, even maybe at Kenesaw Mountain. We would visit Westmidtown and Inman Park. We would go for a coffee at the Chatahoochee Coffee company or at Brash at the Chastain Park. And eat Sushi at Taka Sushi in Sandy Spring.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my success to every yoga teachers that I ever had. They all brought me so much, even the teachers I had for one class or one workshop only. Because Yoga is a science and an art that is being passed on from generations to generations. I am grateful for all my teachers and I never forget to thank them everyday in my life by chanting and celebrating, sending some good intentions every time I practice or teach.
