We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance was something I never really struggled with until my husband got out of the Navy and we had our first born son. I had a lot of free time, when he was out to sea, so I was at to maneuver at will. Once the baby came, it was like starting all over again. I had to restructure how I ran my business. I no longer had an abundance of free time so a schedule became my best friend. I had to learn the hard way where I could complete a detailed order in 1 day now took me 2 days to finish. I love the balance that a schedule gives me. I am able to dedicate the proper amount of time needed to my business while still being the Wife and Mom my family needs and deserves.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Confectionate Creations started from my love of working with my hands. I love to create things that make people happy. I begin by randomly making cupcakes for my coworkers one day. Everyone raved how great they were and asked could I make more the next week. Someone made a comment that the cupcakes were so good they should be sold in stores! From that day I knew I found my calling. It was a fairly easy process to get to where I am today but it took A LOT of hard work, dedication and investing in my craft. If you want to be the best you have to learn from the best. Investing in my business was the best thing I could have ever done. What sets me apart from others is I create the unexpected. I had a client who wanted cakepops, for her son’s birthday and she gave me creative design. I went on to create the 1st cakepop tower I had ever seen. It went viral on Instagram and now I am known as the “Tower Lady”. I make almost any dessert into a tower.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being that there isn’t much to do here in Monroe, Georgia I would go to Atlanta. I would stay at my favorite hotel, Hotel Indigo Downtown Atlanta but if I’m feeling really fancy then Chateau Elan Winery and Resort. I love nature and just being in the moment so I would visit Brasstown Bald for the amazingscenery and Toccoa falls to enjoy nature and the water fall. I’m a major foodie so for dinner Ruth’s Chris Steak House for there steak, lobster and lobster mac and cheese. I love a great experience so the Bando for their famous “crack” wings, Slutty Vegan for a “One Night Stand” which has vegan bacon and Ponce City Market.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to 2 people. First, my husband Keenan, the love of my life. Thank you for encouraging and pushing me to follow my dreams. Second, my Mom Michelle. Thank you for being a listening ear for all of my ideas and giving me the best advice. I love you both dearly!
