We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Kennedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“I foster an environment that reinforces the positive impact that words have on the human spirit” is my statement of philosophy. It is a statement that affirms the power that we have to broaden our influence and increase our impact through effective communication. It’s a confirmation of what I believe as it guides my decision-making in my personal life, professional life, and parenting.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve made it my mission to help professionals and leaders leverage the power of effective communication, cultivate better relationships and build lasting connections within their personal and professional life. My particular expertise is taking the most common communication challenges people face and shifting them to an opportunity for a greater outcome. I help professionals and leaders lean into the power of intentionality to focus on more impactful communication. My approach offers an opportunity for self-assessment, interpersonal resolutions, and actionable solutions. In addition to being a communication specialist, Speech-Language Pathologist, speaker, and trainer, I’ve also had the honor of authoring five books on effective communication skills. Listening, learning, and adding value are principles that guide me today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whether you are in the heart of Atlanta or visit metro Atlanta, it has so much to offer in savory cuisine and culturally-rich experiences. During a week-long trip, my friend and I could venture out along the ATL Beltline to enjoy the occasional libation at Lingering Shade Social Club, then walk over to Krog Street Market for dinner, and later land at a quaint creamery for gelato. When seeking flavors from an array of continents, we’d head over to the food hall at Ponce City Market where we’d enjoy a light beverage, fresh Caesar salad, and pleasant customer service at Bellina Alimentari. The nice weather would prompt us to head to The Roof to enjoy meaningful conversation, family entertainment, and a charming city view. To close out the week-long trip, we’d include the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA), and the exhibits at the Atlanta Botanical Garden followed by a hearty grain bowl at Upbeet.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To the tenacious college student, whose seemingly random conversation at a campus bus stop led to the School of Communication Science and Disorders, and the publishing of her first book to openly share her story and the lived experiences of others. I would not only like to thank that young woman, the younger me, for having the courage to speak freely, but I would also like to extend special thanks to the family, friends, and mentors who were willing to share their wisdom and add value along her journey.
