We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Franceschi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I feel like one of the biggest keys to success is thinking big, but then breaking that big thought into smaller tasks. That way you can create a realistic timeline of what needs to be accomplished, as well as get a perspective of the task at hand that makes it feel less overwhelming. Once you know what needs to be done, specifically, no idea is too big,
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was born in Colombia, a country that to this day continues to have a very traditional mindset of what success is and how you achieve it. I was blessed to be born into a family that values passion, honesty, and above all, kindness. While my parents followed a very traditional route, they never limited me (or my 4 siblings) in terms of what our dreams could be (or how big they could get). This is what I try to inspire with my work; that if you are being kind to yourself and others while doing what makes your soul feel full, then you are successful. My biggest challenge in a world that continues to measure the worth of a human by its economical input, was not to measure or value myself by that same standard. A seven figure job does not make you a saint. It’s how you impact other lives that does.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m all for anything that gets me a bit of nature. The aquarium or the botanical garden are always on my list. Either walking around and taking a look at the wonders of nature, or picking a spot and reading for a bit, its a nice way to recharge our soul. (Not sure if they are still letting you stay long due to Covid).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely have to shoutout one very talented friend, her name is LeeLee Jackson. She is an amazing writer and storyteller, and I do feel the world is lucky to have someone as passionate and as real as her. She created this space Black Light Arts Collective (https://www.blacklightartscollective.com/), where artists can gather to reify ideas, stories, and expressions of Black imagination. She is one of the most inspirational people I have ever met.
