Meet D’Monica Finney | Makeup & Brow Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with D’Monica Finney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi D’Monica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor for as it pertains to my success & my brands success is that I keep God at the center of it all.
Constantly going over what God says about me & what He has promised for my future helps me not have a close-minded mentality when it comes to what & how much I can achieve with my businesses
Jeremiah 29:11 will do it every time, but some Amos 9:13-15 will have you SHOUTING, so the most important factor behind my success is being God-focused with how I make every decision & remembering I’m just doing my part with the gifts He’s given me & letting Him do the rest.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
(Set apart) I’m a MUA who is very versatile, I can glam you up & give you a full glam or keep it natural. Whatever my client desires I do my best to alter each look to their specific taste. None of my glams with look exactly the same & I take pride in that. My character is to always make sure they leave satisfied with the look they will feel most confident in.
(Proud/excited about) I’ve always told myself in sports/organizations that I’m not a quitter so in my makeup journey thus far, I’m very proud of my consistent growth since starting. I’m always looking for the next new trend or tip that I could implement to improve my brand. I’m actually super excited about my new journey diving into the permanent makeup industry doing microshading! Brows are my absolute FAVORITE part of the makeup process so it was only right I got into the profession to not only create but tattoo perfect eyebrows. Services opening soon!
(The start) I started doing makeup as a little hobby from middle to high school with doing my own makeup for picture days or game days and then slowly branching out to do close friends & family for prom and other special events. I really realized my passion to do makeup professionally when we had the major COVID outbreak in 2020 & there was nothing but time, space, & opportunity to be the creative I truly was. I started with recreating/revamping little makeup challenges here and there then what started my appetite to do others was when a fashion show was held in my hometown (Macon,GA 478) & they needed a makeup artist. I came in with my face slayed of course because I was in the fashion show as well, but I brought my kit & told them I’m doing faces for $15 & the rest was history. I ended up doing 5 faces that day & even got some returners!! Sadly COVID was and is still affecting our lives and due to a client scare I decided to shut my services down until further notice. I didn’t really get back into makeup until summer of 2022, but that’s also when my mindset of business shifted for the better. I finally took a professional makeup course in November of 2022 with the one and only Makeupbybarbee who is not only from the same hometown as me (Macon, GA), but she’s also an award-winning Pro MUA, major shoutout to her for all of her tips & tricks I still use today! Though this journey didn’t take off in more normal circumstances, I am beyond grateful for how much I’ve grown in just a year & how much I’m going to continue to grow especially now that I recently gotten licensed to do Microshading/Ombré brows
(My brand’s story) My brand has always been an image of my individuality, but also a continuous faith process in trusting that God gave me this gift for a reason. It just so happens that I love to do it too lol. I want the world to know that no matter what you go for in life whether it’s a business venture, a creative idea, whatever it may be, as long as God is the focus of your life everything else will be added unto you (Matthew 6:33)! I choose to continue to show that throughout my brand & my life, because without Him I’d be lost.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m originally from Macon, GA. Quick Shoutout to 478, MaconIt, Howard High School!! Y’all know I had to lol. However, I’m based in Columbus, GA at the moment due to graduating from Columbus State University. Upon graduation, I decided to continue loving here due to the calm life Columbus brings. Downtown Columbus is truly where it’s at if you want to try something new whether it’s from different restaurants to different activities. My favorite places to go to are the riverwalk where you can walk alongside the & take in the scenic views. I also enjoy ax throwing, skating, rock wall climbing. There’s so many different things to do here, you just gotta know where to look. I’m still finding new places & I’ve been here since 2018!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person who deserves the entire world & then some for how much they’ve supported me through each and every journey is my mom.
That woman right there is my super woman in REAL LIFE. From the constant pep talks to a listening ear, she has been my backbone & #1 supporter with every dream I’ve gone for. I’m forever grateful for her selfless spirit, her legacy of ambition, drive, & motivation, & most importantly her consistent love. That’s my girl & she deserves all the credit I can give because even though she’s my mom she didn’t HAVE to pour into me but she did & not only financially but also emotionally & spiritually with no questions asked. I love you mommy, big shout out to my Ms.MakeItHappen
