Meet DJIAN | DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with DJIAN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJIAN, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I wanted to become a dj when my mother & father had their wedding in the fall of 2010. The way the Dj was interacting with the crowd made me interesting in becoming a dj.Once’s I decided that I wanted to become a dj I got my first iPad for Christmas and I downloaded this app called “edjing mixer” and i taught myself how to mix & blend from song to song. I got my first booked at a family Barbecue. I was excited to experience my first set with family & friends. I was able to engage with the crowd while infusing new school music with old school music. It was that moment I realized I found my passion. Since that day , I have built a brand and continued to work on my craft.My hopes for my brand is to impact my community and follow the footsteps of the DJ’s that came before me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What makes me proud of my brand is getting to network with local & mainstream DJ’s. It can be a challenge breaking into the djing world , especially as a newcomer. However, In the years of building my brand I have learned that there is room for all of us at the table. The one thing I have learned is to not rush ,your time will come . I want my name to expand more so that my brand is able to get more coverage.Once i expand my brand,My plan is to return back to my community and rebuild music programming in borough queens.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout to DJ HoodflyEsco because he has helped me a lot in the dj game when i started. He always told me to watch the Crowd when I’m Djing parties and To study my music and do my homework. Thank you for always believing in me and serving as a mentor to me.

I would also like to shout out to my family for always supporting my dreams . You are the reason I’m DJIan in the booth and in the community.
