We had the good fortune of connecting with Dj Millz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dj, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Being consistent and being strategic on content and what attracts people, what they like, and what they should know as well as being a leader and knowing you have the power to not only influence but control the culture as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hiphopistheculture was inspired by hip hop ,the black culture, the people who love and those who support it. Starting the idea it was never to be like any other media platform, just wanting to be original on what we present to our audience but also giving the chance for real gifts and talents to be seen and heard on a influential platform with thousands of people in tune to what’s being posted. Starting out as a DJ to moving on to other things becoming a jack of all trades and having a real love for music and the Culture. It’s never easy when you are trying to reach a certain level in your career but the experiences and knowledge is just something you can’t pay for so I cherish them all. Coming from the city of Charlottesville and state of Virginia it’s really hard to get noticed if you are not moving around outside of the state, so I took it up upon myself to be the go to person if you were trying to reach higher levels. It’s a lesson in every mistake but the lesson means nothing if you can’t recognize it. The main lesson is to stay true to yourself, stay consistent, have faith small as a mustard seed, and remember why you started in the first place even when it gets overwhelming. I love the culture of hip hop and what it has done for so many people of color, giving us a way to express ourself in many different forms. Nothing happens unless you try, having a goal is everything, being original and networking to build solid relationships is the most important thing you could do. Showing love and support really helped me get where I wanted to go, people I wanted to be around and have a chance to work with and for. Sometimes supporting somebody else’s dream while working on yours could help you achieve so many things but it has to come from the heart and you have to know what your purpose is in the mist of it all. I have had to become a jack of all trades for many reasons, but the main one would be my passion, the knowledge I’ve gained, my drive and ambition. In the business that we are in sometimes it’s not easy being a boss or a leader but no matter what the jobs has to get done by any means because that’s all that matter at the end of the day. Playing one position is kind of hard when you are filled with so many gifts and talents not to mention the things I’ve taught myself in order to stay relevant and bringing more to the table at anytime. Real hustlers have no limit.
