We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ D-Town and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
No Risk, no reward. I started doing business after losing my job with the last $3,000 in my bank account, bills due And only 1 show lined up.

God saw the leap of faith and I’ve been booked every weekend for going on almost 3 years now.

Taking that risk has opened doors to rooms I could never have thought to be in. I’ve been apart of many events and also been able to work with celebrities and their teams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What set me apart early was professionalism. Showing up early and having things ready. Being knowledgeable in my craft as an engineer.

What I had to learn is the art of being a DJ. Most people just assumed I was a DJ because I had speakers, lights, etc. but I was actually a start up A/V company.

Eventually I found myself playing music and for the first year and I didn’t even have a controller. was just fading music in an out on the beginner x32 mixing board and telling people “I’m not really a DJ I’m an engineer”

Fast forward a year later I’m DJing everywhere becoming better known in the community and spinning records for Stephan speaks a globally renown relationship guru and author and Dallas legends like Lucci, Tum tum, Big Tuck and BigXThePlug.

Moral of the story if you ever want to make God laugh tell him you have a plan. If anyone would have told me I’d be here even 2 years ago I would have called them crazy. I saw my self just renting out equipment to venues and festivals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ll be completely honest I’m a bit of a home body and really big gamer. So I really wouldn’t know where to go.

Maybe point them to headquarters, tree, fuel city, and let them figure it out. All my friends know this tho I’m not the person to look to for this type of stuff.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t have been able to get my start without the underground artist scene here in Dallas. Big shoutouts to UmuziK, speakeasy, peerxpressure, creatorsdontdie, royal lane studios and all the event coordinators for facilitating my growth as a DJ.

A special shoutout to Tyler Barrett. He a great friend and business partner. Little known fact when I was starting out at smaller shows and promoters couldn’t pay me the full price. He would put up the rest. I didn’t find out until about a year later. Support and belief like that is hard to come by and im forever grateful for it.
