We had the good fortune of connecting with Dionna Diane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dionna, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
To have a back up plan. I think that piece of advice subjects someone to almost prepare for failing. It’s one thing to have a plan for something while you’re simultaneously working on your passion. I can understand that. Choosing to do something else once you’ve gotten to the point where you feel as though you’ve “failed”, is essentially choosing that option over what you really want to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I am most excited about a project that I’ll be shooting soon. We’ve already shot some content and it looks amazing. The character creator, Onaji Rouse, is a genius and I am so blessed to know him. It’s based on a comic book character he created. She’s a superhero who’s attempting to live a civilian life. I don’t think I can say too much yet, but I am very excited. Most specifically, because it’s a black creator, writer, and director. She also appears in comics published by a black owned independent publishing company. It’s rare.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Little Five Points for sure. There are so many different stores like: record shops, metaphysical shops, PIZZA… there’s just a lot to do and see there. I’d also check out the SkyView Ferris wheel if it’s not cloudy. The Coca Cola Factory and the Aquarium as well. I also really liked going to Stone Mountain for the light show when I was younger, and snow tubing there in the winter. If there are any concerts I’d recommend The Masquerade or The Atlanta Symphony if your taste is more classical. Lastly, the High Museum of Art and the Civil Rights Museum in Atlanta.  Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Mom definitely deserves A LOT of the credit. She’s the most encouraging, supportive, and loving woman I know. She spent so much money on acting classes and taking me to different sets growing up. I’m so blessed to have her as a Mom. Also, my sister and brother who are always down to read with me when I have self tape auditions. Kristen Shaw of Kristen Shaw Acting Studio is the best acting coach I’ve had yet. I don’t think she knows, but her classes changed a lot of people’s lives. Leaving a class with her feels similar to leaving a really good therapy session. Also, Mark McKinnon of McKinnon Acting Studio. He’s very encouraging and uplifting. I’m sure there are a bunch of people I’m forgetting like my high school drama teacher, but I’ll stop there.
