We had the good fortune of connecting with Dion and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dion, what are you inspired by?
Seeing what other people do artistically inspires me. I’m constantly driven by new sounds and looks and figuring out how I can incorporate those new things into my own work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would say my style is somewhat distinct but I honestly can’t even define it. It’s simply whatever I feel at the moment and I think I’ve solidified a direction for that. I think the versatility in that sets me apart from others. I feel that there’s nothing I can’t do creatively, I actually made some pixel art yesterday and I’ve never done that before but it didn’t stop me from making it. The learning potential in things like that, things that challenge me, it drives me and keeps me creating. Even in music when I hear a thought provoking melody or something I feel I can contribute to, seeing that outcome satisfies me. I feel like being a creator is one of the hardest jobs in the world because not only do you have to b believe in yourself but at times you have to convince someone else that you’re the one they’re looking for. And there’s ways around that but that’s even harder to do. It’s all a test, it’s almost easier to give up and that’s why I feel like that thought crosses many minds that do the same thing. I still have lessons that I’m learning in real time and that’s just what comes with the road that I decided to take. Realistically anyone can do what I do as far as the task but what makes one different from the other is the thought behind it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely say the High Museum of Art is a good place to spend some time at if you’re into that. There’s almost too many good food spots to name but Farm Burger is probably one of my favorites. I can’t even lie I’m not even really outside like that. I try to be more recently and actually take some of the world in because you need that as a creator. It can’t all be work and I think I have a bad habit of being glued to my work.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say my sister just because I got my artistic drive from her, any collective I’m in (Strive, Archetype, No Sanity, etc.) as well as other friends I’ve met throughout my creative journey, my mother for her endless support and contributions to what I do, and really anyone who has believed in me enough to creatively contribute to their sound or image. I really don’t take any of that for granted and it gives me a way to express myself through their ideas!
