We had the good fortune of connecting with Dillon Mann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dillon, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I would have to say the preparation it takes to get established. A lot of people think you just show up to an open call and make it big. While that has happened for some people, the real work is made behind the scenes. That can involve training, headshots, getting a demo reel, building a resume which is uploaded to multiple casting sites, etc.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have worked really hard for where I am today. I have worked several projects over the years for free just to get experience and network with others. I did this a lot even when I was fresh out of high school and really didn’t have the money to be traveling out of the state for little to no money. I really took a lot of risks the first 5 years I jumped into this industry “professionally” I see a lot of people who are first starting out and they have this idea like the industry is going to jump through hoops for them when in fact it’s the exact opposite. I’ve always stayed humble, and I know I have a long way to go.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not really into the bar scenes of Charlotte but I am a rollercoaster junkie. I would say let’s spend the day riding rollercoasters or exploring the town and letting the wind take us wherever it wants. I do enjoy NODA and I use to always go to Amelie’s the French bakery.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A huge shoutout goes to Dawn Rickus, the development director over one of the most successful talent showcases in the country “Talent INC” She has guided me over the past several years and has allowed me to take ownership of Talent INC the Studio where I also coach acting classes.
I want to also shoutout my mom who has supported me through my entire life and has been the foundation of my development and resulting in the person I am today. Without her I really don’t know where I would be right now.
