We had the good fortune of connecting with Dillan Kenyon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dillan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Well, for one, if I didn’t risk reaching out to this one producer who is in Internet Money, I wouldn’t have the friends, songs, or life I have right now. I had an opportunity to reach out to him via Discord, and we got to talking and we just started to produce together, later paving the way for my next album. And through this producer, I met a huge group of people and I started to make bonds that break the boundary of just music. I still game with them to this day. So I am all for taking risks in life, and in a person’s career. A lot of people are not so warm to that idea, but I recommended it one hundred percent.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a rapper who also produces for other artists. The work I am most proud of is my next album dropping soon with loads of friends who I brought along the way. Honestly, some people will say I got here by luck. I don’t believe that for one second. I have been making music since I was 4, so in my eyes, this was always bound to happen with time and hard work. It was easy at first, but then came in the infamous “hate” phase where I would get constant hate and threats in my music and on my friends. But I learned to ignore it and focus on the people around me who love me and want me to succeed. Something I want the world to know, is don’t let one negative person bring you down. Whether you are in music, a regular day job, school, whatever. No one else defines who you are. Only you have the power to do that.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Nashville, Tennessee. So of course I would take them downtown and show them the place I’m proud of. My favorite spot to eat will always be the various restaurants in the downtown area. My favorite hang out spot is an easy one. There is a really cool virtual reality place called “Rabbit Hole VR” and I spent some of my best time there. It’s decently priced to. If I could, I’d live there. One cool place to visit is the Wax museum in Opry-Mills. I know it’s bordering Nashville, but that place is so cool to go and see and learn.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dynox, he is a music producer. He taught me the ins and outs of this music thing, and is just overall an amazing person.
